Jayson Flores, if you've left food at the door where Simba escaped and there's been no evidence he's approached the front of the house (has the food been eaten and/or do you have cameras watching the area?) after about five days you can proceed to the next step in the process. This is what I suggest: DURING THE DAYTIME remind neighbors Simba is lost and ask if he’s been seen on security cameras at night or if anyone in the area feeds cats outside (he would only go as far as necessary to find a safe and consistent source of food). Then focusing your efforts within about three houses of home, search again during the day using a flashlight -- but be quiet and discreet so as not to frighten him, but suspend searching just after dark to give him the chance to emerge for food. Refresh the inconspicuous but familiar item outside to give Simba the confidence to come out of hiding, and going forward place tempting food at his point of escape and in various safe and quiet locations at dusk (choose places where Simba will feel comfortable eating -- close to a foundation, under shrubs, inside a porch, shed or garage with the door cracked open, etc. — a frightened cat is more concerned with safety than food). Simba's instinct will be to come out after dark to eat and once you know where, you can get him back inside. Diana Ellis So Simba came out the front door. There is a fence on both ends but the Left side of the house the fence is always open to the backyard. The side of the neighbors house is fence and they have a dog that is sometimes outside in their yard but not with this heat since it's a husky. There is a tree in the backyard and there is a hole in there and I thought he would go there but I never found him there in all times I checked. On the left side my neighbors patio is fenced too on both sides but she hasn't seen the cat. I have two cats and it's the brother that is missing so I showed her his sister to see how he may look like. I long suspected he may be hiding in her backyard but I dont think he can't squeeze through the fence he is a big cat. So want me to leave him food at random areas? I put food in the backyard and front and no one has come in to feast at all. So go to possible "hiding spots" and leave food?

Jayson Flores, is your property surrounded by a fence and did Simba exit into the backyard? If so, you'll need to crack open the fence gate at dusk to give him a way into your property. If you're searching the neighborhood, that's too wide an area -- Simba is likely no more than a house or two away from home. If you don't have other animals approaching the house, and you've seen nothing that would deter Simba from returning, you may need to proceed to the next step in the process which will be to identify a place where Simba does feel comfortable emerging at night for food, and then to trap him. If he won't come close to the house for whatever reason, you'll need to catch him where he is and that involves setting food out in various safe and discreet locations at dusk, figuring out which bowl has attracted him overnight, then setting a trap. This next step is made easier if you have cameras to monitor those bowls so you know just where and when to set the trap for Simba. Please let me know your thoughts.

Diana Ellis I honestly haven't seen anything out of the ordinary. I don't picture him going far from here at all. I have not seen a trace of him anywhere in the neighborhood. He must have escaped past might when he did. There is a dog on the opposite neighbors house and there is no dog on the other side. I haven't seen my neighbor in days so she might not be in. Gonna Geta ladder to see if he is back there in her yard.

Jayson Flores, I'm so sorry. If you did as I suggested and Simba failed to return, did you observe anything overnight that may suggest why (stray cats, critters, or people outside after dark, noise or commotion, objects set in his path, etc.)? If you describe what's happened I can suggest what to do next. You may still be in the window of opportunity for Simba to come back on his own so something must be keeping him in hiding. If we can figure out what it is, you may have success with this technique before having to try something more complicated.

Put smelly wet food outside, hav a hart traps work, check them often. At night shine a flashlight you may catch reflection of his eyes. Check shed, garages, under cars, anyplace he could hide or be stuck. Put up flyers, especially at vet offices. Talk to neighbors, ask if they have security cameras that may catch him walking by. They tend to move early morning and evenings. Put out used litter and fav humans worn clothes, familiar smells help bring them in. If possible, leave a patio or garage door open so he can get in. Contact rescues & county shelters, take a pic. Physically check county shelter often, they are busy. She will be very scared & may go into survival mode, she may not respond to you. Some wait until they're starving to come out for food. Keep food/trap out & check often. If you have another cat, try putting them outside in a SECURE carrier. Their meows may call the lost one in. Pray. Don't give up!
