Smokey's Owner Says

Thank you everyone who shared this post and helped in any way, shape, or form to bring Smokey home. She was 2 blocks from our home and my husband found her when looking for her last night. We are beyond relieved and so thankful to have our little void back.

Helpful Hints: Post huge fluorescent colored paper signs all around! Post on Nextdoor.com, Pawboost and all Lost and Found Sites in other boroughs and suburbs. Check all vets offices, shelters and rescues throughout. Check Craigslist Lost and Found Pets. Rehoming/Selling Pets etc. sections ! Check all bushes, alley ways, especially in the morning and evening time. Walk around waving something scented of yours and also your pets so he/she will detect it while you call out their name. Tie your shirt or something scented of yours and your pets where your pet was last seen. Try anchovies Search teams and scent dogs can provide help also. If you know of another dog owner their dog can be used to detect the scent of your lost pet. It's worked many times! Hope this helps! 🙏

I don’t think I’m on the right side of town, but I passed a fluffy black cat sitting out on sidewalk around 1am Friday night. I was on Lake Vilma Dr, Metro West 32835

Meagan Ethell, I'm sorry. Is there a safe place at the edge of the swamp to which you might attempt to lure her? She's unlikely to go deep into the swamp -- if she jumped out there she would likely linger in a hiding place she felt was safe. If you can find a place away from traffic, you might try setting out a familiar blanket, sitting low to the ground and opening some tempting food (the best time to try is at dusk or overnight). Call her softly and wait to see if she'll emerge. If so, be careful not to scare her -- wait until she's close enough and pinch her scruff to calm her and do not let go until she's safely contained (you don't want a struggle to end tragically). If she doesn't come out, you could try leaving something familiar (old shoe, worn teeshirt, socks, etc.) in a discreet place along with some food. I know it's a little risky, but if Smokey finds something comforting and food, she'll stay put, providing additional opportunities to snag her. If you'd rather not leave food, perhaps you can rent or borrow a wildlife or trail camera to set with the familiar items to determine if Smokey is actually in that area. Please try to remain hopeful and keep us updated on your efforts.

If people would keep their cats inside there would be no lost cat posts.
