He may be hiding under a porch or a car, behind bushes, or in a wooded area. Go out late at night with a flashlight that might reflect against his eyes, and call him gently. Or shake a bag of treats, sometimes better than your voice to attract a cat that’s scared. Create scent trails on the grass and ground leading up to your home (or to a trap, ideally monitored with a trail cam, so you can respond quickly when the cat is in the trap). Get a towel and rub it with your dirty laundry, blankets, socks, or anything else with the scent of home. (Do not use kitty litter.) Tie a rope to the towel and drag it from the areas where you think the cat might be, creating scent trails leading to your house (or the trap). You won’t smell the scent on the towel or the ground, but the cat will. (If you use a trap, load it with a little cat food, chicken or tuna, enough to attract the cat from the trail that leads up to it. Rely on the scent trails to get your cat to the trap.) Rain will wash away the scent trails, so you’ll have to drag again afterwards. Also, renew the trails every couple days. Try to remain patient and hopeful. Some cats only show up after many days or even weeks. Important: . Never leave a trap unattended, always keep an eye on it, checking it every 1/2 hour in person or with a trail cam. Position the trap close to where the cat escaped. . Trail cam photos and videos are marked with time stamps, helpful to know if and when the cat shows up but doesn’t go into the trap. . Post flyers in the area with a picture of your cat and your contact information. . Even if you don’t have a trap or a trail cam, scent trails leading to your home can work.

Please try these tips they have definitely helped others. Watch a tip video on youtube about how to find your lost cat,there are several. Post and check on Nextdoor for sightings. Also just heard about this site offering great useful tips so definitely check it out “lostcatfinder.com” Also, your kitty is probably not far away so the sooner the better, put out something of yours or the cats out for scent, putting out the litter box is not recommended as it attracts unwanted critters that could possibly scare your cat off again, use your judgement . SO IMPORTANT…. Look with flashlight early a.m. and/or late at night, calling and shaking food. That part is crucial because those are the quiet hours and your cat would be more prone to coming out of hiding. put up flyers too. If you get any sightings use a trap, sometimes you can borrow from animal control or Amazon has them. I have recently heard some take smelly, oily fish (juice only) (sardines, tuna) and make a “smelly trail” around their house to help with scent. Dont give up too soon , i had one gone for weeks and as i was about to give up, my last night to call her, she was in our yard. Also just heard someone found theirs after 70 days so…… 🙏🏻🙏🏻 EDIT: Regarding looking early a.m. or late p.m. hours I feed a stray and I see him on our ring camera before it gets truly light so when I say early a.m. I mean something like 430-530 am. Also when searching if you notice any feral cat colonies/feeding stations, definitely check them out /feeding stations, check them out
