LOST DOG TIPS BEWARE of scammers saying they found your pet and want you to email them a code, etc. They will also tell you to text or connect through Instagram to a certain group that helped them find their pet. People saying that they found your dog and they want you to text your phone number in messenger, DON'T do it! It's a scam. SEARCHING RIGHT AWAY everywhere will increase chance of locating your dog. Borrow or buy humane trap and set up near your home where they got out. Cover it with scented items from you. Get a motion detector camera and monitor to see if it comes back to house. Ask neighbors to review any cameras they have to see if spotted. In the Woods? Go deep in woods around your house, take some torn strips of scented clothing, make a scent trail by walking around leaving strips of scented clothing leading back to house. **If Chipped, be sure it is registered and up to date! ***PLEASE WATCH VIDEOS on youtube ASAP TO GET ON THE FAST TRACK TO BECOMING A KNOWLEDGEABLE SEARCHER (1) SEARCH Immediate area (look in your house, outside of home, bushes, trees, under deck, porch,) do a thorough deep search by walking around and softly calling her name. Ask neighbors to check garages, crawlspace, drain ditches etc....WALK calling softly SHAKING bag of treats or smelly food like rotisserie chicken. Walk in your area late at night and early am while dark. If spotted, SIT or LAY and wait for them to come to you. (2) NOTIFY Animal Control, file a report and Visit in person every 2 days (3) ADS: lostmydoggie. com a great place to start, a free site that will send a fax blast to the closest vets, shelters in your area, Facebook for your county and state sites and Nextdoor app, petharbor. com, trianglelostpets. org, Petango. com, 24Petconnect. com, helpinglostpets. com, local newspaper and watch Craigslist (4) CONTACT local vets, groomers, pet stores, local rescues. Can get a list of contacts for vets/shelters/rescues here: lostpetusa. net/home choose Find help near you.... (5) FLYERS, give to mail carrier, delivery drivers, etc.! Make them Big, bold, and bright flyers!! Hang them at intersections & at places people meet within 2 mile radius. You can protect flyers from elements by using a plastic sheet protector turned upside down & then hanging flyer (buy at Staples, etc)...Keeps rain out. (6) BIG SIGN in your yard with picture alerting all neighbors and anyone that visits, TAG YOUR CAR WITH PIC & PHONE NUMBER (7) HANG out worn clothing, set out stinky shoes, etc with your scent on it (8) CAMERAS/ FEEDING STATION- at point of exit, get a motion detector camera and place close by with some scented clothing of yours. (9) FIRE UP GRILL cooking some food to help lure it back home. (10) HEAT DRONE Get someone with a heat seeking drone to help (11) Obtain a MAP of area and find WATER sources (they will look and stay close by water sources), also they often times follow power lines. Be sure to GO to your LOCAL SHELTERS with a photo and report your pet lost (your pet may have been taken to a shelter that is not the closest one to you). They have a board for both lost and found pets. Many finders take pets they find to them. Remember, NOT EVERYONE is on Social Media. There's some excellent advice on Missing Animal Response Network on Facebook as well as their website. Additional advice can be found on the website under the drop down menu labeled lost pet help.

Give flyers to the local vet offices and mail carriers too!! Missing Animal Response Network has excellent advice on what to do when your pet goes missing. The section about NEON signs is a must but all of the tips will also help you in your efforts to find your pet. Try putting a large lost sign at the last place seen (someone else may have seen something). Also check on Craigslist under pets lost/found.

Try posting on the local nextdoor app (if possible), lost .petcolove .org and watching craigslist. 🤞 Also try putting out unwashed laundry and some stinky shoes at the last place seen and hopefully your pet will smell it's way back to you. DO NOT put out your pet's bedding because it can attract predators where your scent will scare predators off but still attract your pet. Maybe fire up a grill! *Try contacting a local search and rescue*

Missing pooch tips: Good luck and don’t give up! Tips to locate your lost pet. Get busy with these tips. In addition to using the tips below, be sure to report pooch as lost to your animal shelter or the shelter nearest the are pooch was lost. Also go to the shelter in person, bring a photo of your pet. You may be able to email the photo to the shelter too or report that pooch is missing on their website. Now… moving on to the tips… Acting quickly is best. Important - If pet went missing from home, do these tips at your home. If pet missing while away from home, return to the area pet was last seen. Then modify / use these tips at the site pet was last seen. Most important tips, in my opinion are: 1) make the scent trail as indicated further below; 2) give pooch an easy point of re-entry into pet’s home. 3) it’s preferably to leave open the door pooch commonly uses. 4) be sure to drape some of the scent trail items on the floor/ground thru door’s opening. 5) Leave the re-entry point open thru the night and into the morning hours. Pets are most likely to return home between 1 am and 5 am. More tips: - Place a simple Lost Dog sign in your yard and at your mailbox. - Put pup’s bed outside on the porch near the front door (or where last seen) and place unwashed clothing and unwashed bed sheets in the yard. Place unwashed laundry high to catch the breeze and carry the scent of home - over porch railings and fences or bushes. You are creating a scent trail for pooch to follow home. - If possible and it’s safe to do so, leave the door open for pooch to walk back inside your home. If see that’s not a possible consider sleeping near the door so that you can better hear if pooch barks or scratches at the door to be let back inside. Pets are the most likely to return late at night when things are quiet, usually between 1-4 am. - Another good scent idea is to grill meat or chicken. Cook something on your outside grill that you can cook a long time, so the delicious scent will travel. If pet went missing away from home, bring a gas camp stove to grill / warm the meat. - Go door to door and tell your neighbors and nearby businesses that your pooch is missing, give them pup’s photo and your ph number. The more eyes on the lookout for your pup, the better. - Offer a reward if you are financially able to do so. Put up neon colored Lost signs in your yard and in the neighborhood. - Ask your neighbors to check in their sheds, garages and any vehicle or building that may have been open around the time pooch went missing. Pooch could’ve sought shelter there / hidden and then become trapped. - Also ask your neighbors if they have a ring doorbell or outside cameras. If so, they may have a photo or video of the furbaby which will tell you what direction pooch was going. - Be sure to talk in normal tones when walking the neighborhood, your dog may respond to your voice and come to you. No crying or yelling - If you have another dog or your dog has a dog friend, walk the doggie friend on leash, give them the scent of the missing dog, if possible, say the missing dogs name and go for a leash walk with the dog. The dog just may lead you to the missing dog or the missing dog may come out of hiding to greet their friend. My Yorkie, Tigerlily, was great at this. Extra tips: If it’s in your budget, hire a reputable, professional pet tracker while pet’s scent trail is still fresh. And consider using a pet finding drone service company / person to search a large area. Good luck and don’t give up! Let me know when you get your pet back.

~~~Give a copy of the picture with information to the mailman in the area… They encounter many people & situation… Put a sign with information & picture in your front yard if you can & @ stop signs… Someone may have him thinking he was abandoned… Someone may have a camera that captured something… Always get your animal microchipped, it gives a better chance of being reunited… If the dog is microchipped, call the company ASAP … Report you animal missing to your local dog pound… PetCo has free software that uses photo recognition to match your photo to photos from rescues and shelters.
