Message from Owner

My kitten got out while my husband was taking our son to school, he is 6 months old and probably terrified as he has been a strictly indoor cat his entire life. Please help us bring our baby home, I am completely beside myself with worry. He is a friendly baby, loves pets and cuddles and is very trusting. His neuter and chip appointment is next week, his collar was not on because I had recently bathed him. His brothers miss him so much and are constantly meowing and looking for him.

If outdoor cat; It is best to keep cat inside for their safety. Especially black cats. They are stolen the most. CATS ARE STOLEN DAILY all over. It is dangerous for outdoor cats. If outdoors, please get cat FIXED, CHIPPED AND A TAG with your PHONE NO. Easier to find if chipped and not expensive. Alert local shelters and police. If not microchipped, ck shelters in person every day. Not found over phone. Even if chipped, ck shelters. Someone found their chipped cat at shelter. Put up laminated flyers all around social media, utility poles, vets, etc. w pic of pet Go out late night w flashlight and speak softly outside for a bit until cat feels safe to come out of hiding. Flashlight may catch the cats eyes and light them up. Set up trap w tuna, cats smell and your worn clothing. Post on “Nextdoor” (so many cat reunite on nextdoor) and for “The Love of Louie”. Cats won’t come to you, they depend on you to find them. Scroll thru this site daily. Someone just found theirs by sleeping outside on their porch w flashlight on their face. They had food w them also. You are the best person to get kitty back. CHECK SHELTERS OFTEN! THEY DON’T KEEP LONG. Ck craigslist daily for any FOUND cats in your area. Traps really work. Keep older cat inside. They get lost. Play sound of kitties crying and cat may come out of hiding. Put a live trap out by the door, and leave the garage door open about 6-8" with cat food in it. To trap cat: A rescue bought a rotisserie chicken (or tuna) from Kroger and shredded some with some juice and got it in the first try in a trap. They don’t go far from home because they are scared and come out at night time, when quiet. If you use a trap, monitor frequently & also put a blanket in it with your scent. Keep checking this site daily for at least a year.

Get drone before cat moves on. Put up large pic of cat saying lost on your front lawn. Cats won't come out of hiding until you find them or for food. They are fearful of strangers an will only come out for you. Go out late night. Call him quietly. Loud voices scare them. Take flashlight around close to your house and ask neighbor if you can ck their backyards. I found mine 3 houses down in bushes hiding. He wouldn't come out. Had to go get him out. Please ck shelters in person every day if not chipped. They have too many cats to find yours when you call them. If cat has dog brother, take your dog for walk and he may find missing cat. Someone just found their cat by sitting outside for awhile talking and cat came out of hiding. Neighbors don't like outdoor cats in their yards and will take them and dump somewhere.

PLEASE KEEP CKING SHELTERS IN PERSON. NOT CALLING. EVEN IF CHIPPED, CHECK SHELTER ALSO. SOMEONE CHIPPED PET WAS FOUND AT A SHELTER. CHIP DID NOT SHOW UP WHEN SCANNED. CHECK PETFINDER DAILY IN ABOUT A WEEK OR MORE AFTER MISSING DAY TO SEE IF UP FOR ADOPTION. Petfinder is a free site where pets are posted up for adoption. Most pets that are not found because family does not keep checking shelters often. fI possibly Get HELP: There are people who find lost pets. Seek the advice of a professional trapper/rescuer and a get a DRONE company in your area. Ask police, Nextdoor, shelters, rescues and vets for companies nearby.

LOST CAT TIPS Cats typically don't go very far, and are hiding, so you'll have to search for them. Get smelly food, like tuna or sardines out ASAP. Put dirty clothing (a pillowcase you've been sleeping on is best) with your scent out along with food, as your cat will be looking for your scent. Your cat will try to re-enter the house the same way it left. If possible, secure other any other animals you have and leave the door ajar/window open that he escaped from. Check in and around your home: inside the entire house, bushes, up in trees, deck, porch etc. If their head fits their body will too! Do NOT put the litter box out as it may attract community cats and other predators, which could actually deter your cat from coming home out of fear. IMMEDIATELY make a flyer and/or go door to door and ask neighbors to check outbuildings, sheds, garages and their Ring and other security camera footage for sightings of him/her and to text/call you ASAP! Not everyone uses social media, so large neon posters/flyers in your neighborhood is critical in getting your lost pet back home. Post on all social media groups, especially those specific to your neighborhood and on Nextdoor, and Ring. Definitely post on For the Love of Louie and check periodically on their FOUND pages to see if he/she has been found by someone. Go out periodically through out the night (especially after midnight until dawn) shaking his/her treats or opening a can of wet food and call to him/her. Use a flashlight to look under cars, bushes and up in trees for the glow of the kitties eyes. Listen for any responses and watch for movement and/or eyes peering out. Renting/borrowing/buying a live trap and setting within the first 24 hours your cat has been missing is a good idea. Live traps need to be monitored frequently (a camera with a live feed is best). Be prepared to release wildlife. If you have a garage, leave the door open enough for him/her to get in. If you live in a mobile home community look under yours and your neighbor's homes.

The best time to look for a cat is late at night after the daytime sounds settle down. Go for a walk and take a flashlite scan into the trees and under bushes. A cat can fit in any hole that they can fit their head thru they have collapsible shoulder blades. Most indoor cats stay close to home but come out at night. Most important is to make your presence known. Go out every half hour after 9pm and call for them and stop and listen it's amazing what you can hear late at night. Get your voice and scent out there. They are looking for you also. Look for glowing eyes at night. If there is a dog sibling that the cat likes take the dog on the walk. If you open canned cat food or shake treats do so on your walk. If the cat has a noisy toy shake it on your walk. Make posters and put in every business within a mile of the home. Let your mail carrier know. If there are teenagers in the neighborhood let them know they love reward money and being a hero. Check all local shelters. Let local veterinarians know your info. If there is a feral colony near you check it out. If you can find the feeder of the colony give them your info. Make large signs and put in neighbors yards at least a mile radius of the home. This ensures that everyone in the area has the info. Put post it notes on your neighbors doors to look in sheds and garages. Post on every Facebook forum in your area. Post on Pawboost and For the love of Louie. Check Humane Society. So important to make your presence known every half hour after 9pm. Make a bed out of the cats carrier and put soiled clothes from inside the home around the bed. Put it as close to the house as you can. Leave a shed or garage open check them often. Camp in your yard. Most indoor cats are found late at night. Don't give up. Do not put food out or litter it attracts every animal in the area including raccoon opossum feral cats and coyotes. Your cat will know that there is food inside and that is incentive to keep them close to the house. If you are outside that's OK but take it in when you go back in. If your cat sees a predator eating their food it might make them retreat further. Most important is to let them know you are looking for them. Hope you find your baby
