General Information: Cats have a keen sense of smell. Set up a scent station. Hang clothes with your scent on it (Worn clothing from owner) high up outside so the familiar scent can travel and guide the cat back home. NO CAT BOX OR FOOD (as that attracts predators) . Ask your neighbors to check their yard/could be accidently stuck in their garage or shed. (If applicable) Check doorbell or home camera - or ask neighbors to check their camera. Post Fliers with a picture of the cat and your contact information in the area the cat went missing. Not everyone is on Social Media and posters have worked in that if spotted a location can be provided. If a cat is scared they make themselves safe by finding a good hiding spot and often times hide in silence. Look in bushes - bring a flashlight and look for shining eyes. Best time to find your cat is in the early morning hours when the noise level is low and they feel safe. Leave an access point open for the cat to return. This is important if they do come back in the middle of the night. Prayers your cat returns/ or is found safely. Beware of scammers.

Laura Nelson My son and his wife own and operate a restaurant in addition to caring for their three grandchildren. I’m hesitant to add anything else to their plate no matter how important to me.

Wynona Bosworth well that is a shame that your son can't walk his property or go to shelters for you. Good luck

Laura Nelson Thank you so much for the wonderful suggestions. However, I live in a very rural area. My son’s property consists of 20 acres of open land. Our nearest neighbor is quite far away. In addition, most of your recommendations would require me to be much more mobile than I am. I walk with a walker and can’t walk far even with the walker. Of course, my immobility makes my sweet fur babies even more important in my life since the death of my husband a couple months ago. I can and will put out on my porch items with my scent in hopes that it will help guide her home. I can look online and call shelters, but I don’t drive any more, so physically going to shelters is not an option. I can’t put out food for her because I have two small dogs. Firstly, if I put it low enough, the dogs would eat it and, secondly, I can’t take a chance on attracting coyotes, lions, deer or bear.

Please go out at night after traffic noise has down, shine flash light under bushes and things cat can hide under and also in trees. Check out any green spots looking back at you. Call cat and wait for a meow back. CRITICAL INCASE CAT IS TRAPPED SOMEWHERE; start from where cat went missing and workout for a radius of 2 miles, knock on doors and ask in person if they will check sheds, garages, window wells, and other outside buildings for cat. ALSO, put cats bed or an old pair of your tennis shoes to help cat know where your porch is. NOT, a litter box that will attract other animals that may keep your cat away. Scared cats usually don't travel far from where they go missing and will wait for YOU to come find them. Also stop by local shelters and rescues everyother day to see if cat has been. turned in. GOOD LUCK
