Have you looked up Kat Freeman strategy? I wanted to share this in case it helps someone else searching for their cat. My boy, Kaz, went missing for a week ! And after days of fear and heartbreak, I finally found him just a few apartments away. Here’s exactly what worked for me and what gave me hope when I was starting to lose it: Tips That Helped Me Find Kaz 1. Stay Calm When Searching at Night Cats go silent and hide when they’re scared. The calmer you are, the more likely they’ll come out. Walk slowly, pause, and listen — even a faint sound could be them. 2. Use One Familiar Word or Sound Instead of calling their name loudly, use a soft, positive word they know. For me, it was “Hungry?” — Kaz’s dinner word. 3. Open a Can or Treat Bag They Recognize I carried an open can of his favorite food, saying that same gentle word. The sound and smell cut through his fear and told him it was me. 4. Search Close to Home, Over and Over Don’t give up on your immediate area. Many cats hide within a few hundred feet. Kaz was only seven apartments away the entire time. 5. Move Quietly, Light Softly Use a flashlight to look under cars or porches — move it slowly so it doesn’t scare them. Watch for the reflection of their eyes. 6. Walk in Loops Around Your Home Circling your area helps lay down your scent and voice pattern, which your cat recognizes. It’s like leaving a safe trail for them to follow back. 7. Trust That They Hear You Even if you can’t see them, they often hear your voice and are waiting until it feels safe to come out. Your calmness matters more than you realize. Kaz came to me when I finally did this — calm voice, open can, one gentle word. He meowed softly and walked right to me after seven days missing. If you’re still searching, please don’t give up. Stay gentle. Stay consistent. Your cat still knows your voice and your scent. They’re trying to find their way home, too.
