Best practice to leave a door open so they can come in on their own when not afraid

If you have a shed or garage or enclosed porch, prop open the door overnight and put unwashed laundry inside. He may go in overnight. Don't put food in there because it may attract other critters. Leave a window or door open to your home after dark. He may come in. Please borrow a trap from your local shelter and set it up ASAP. Sending prayers.🙏

Put an article of clothing with your scent on it on your porch close to where she got out. Cats have a wonderful sense of smell and will come to those items. Leave a window cracked nearby so that you can hear her. Cats usually don’t go more than a few houses in any direction, so post pictures around the neighborhood and on doors. Ask neighbors to keep an eye out and to check garages and sheds. Cats hide, usually fairly close by. They tend to come out after dark, so look for her then. Call and rattle a treat can if she likes those. If you put food out, stay close by, because it will also attract other animals that might scare her away. Don't leave it out very long. Also, go in person to shelters and vets' offices, and leave a picture and phone number there. I hope you find her!

I agree with Kathy look under everything cars porches sheds houses and in bushes. Found two of mine that way. But they did not make a sound if it wasn’t for the flashlight I would have never found them. Also if u know where he got out and can leave the door cracked he may try to come in the way he left. Also put some smelly food there. If u can’t leave the door open maybe if u can camp out close by so u can check frequently to see if he has returned my little escapee came home at 3am and I don’t know what he would have done if I wasn’t there to let him in. Don’t give up. Go out every night till he is home keep us posted

Please file a missing cat report with Chesapeake animal control. If the cat is chipped to make sure the registry has your current contact information. Visit the shelter several times a week. Tonight after 10 PM, go out of your yard with a bag of kitty treats and a flashlight, walk around your yard quietly, calling your cat’s name and shaking the kitty treats bag. Use the flashlight to look in the bushes to see if you see your cat. Print flyers with your cat picture and your contact information to take around to your neighbors, asking them to call you if they see your cat. Look under porches, decks and structures with open crawlspaces.
