LOST CAT TIPS Cats typically don't go very far, and are hiding, so you'll have to search for them. Get smelly food, like tuna or sardines out ASAP. Put dirty clothing (a pillowcase you've been sleeping on is best) with your scent out along with food, as your cat will be looking for your scent. Your cat will try to re-enter the house the same way it left. If possible, secure other any other animals you have and leave the door ajar/window open that he escaped from. Check in and around your home: inside the entire house, bushes, up in trees, deck, porch etc. If their head fits their body will too! Do NOT put the litter box out as it may attract community cats and other predators, which could actually deter your cat from coming home out of fear. IMMEDIATELY make a flyer and/or go door to door and ask neighbors to check outbuildings, sheds, garages and their Ring and other security camera footage for sightings of him/her and to text/call you ASAP! Not everyone uses social media, so large neon posters/flyers in your neighborhood is critical in getting your lost pet back home. Post on all social media groups, especially those specific to your neighborhood and on Nextdoor, and Ring. Definitely post on For the Love of Louie and check periodically on their FOUND pages to see if he/she has been found by someone. Go out periodically through out the night (especially after midnight until dawn) shaking his/her treats or opening a can of wet food and call to him/her. Use a flashlight to look under cars, bushes and up in trees for the glow of the kitties eyes. Listen for any responses and watch for movement and/or eyes peering out. Renting/borrowing/buying a live trap and setting within the first 24 hours your cat has been missing is a good idea. Live traps need to be monitored frequently (a camera with a live feed is best). Be prepared to release wildlife. If you have a garage, leave the door open enough for him/her to get in. If you live in a mobile home community look under yours and your neighbor's homes.

If outdoor cat; It is best to keep cat inside for their safety. Especially black cats. They are stolen the most. CATS ARE STOLEN DAILY all over. It is dangerous for outdoor cats. If outdoors, please get cat FIXED, CHIPPED AND A TAG with your PHONE NO. Easier to find if chipped and not expensive. Alert local shelters and police. If not microchipped, ck shelters in person every day. Not found over phone. Even if chipped, ck shelters. Someone found their chipped cat at shelter. Put up laminated flyers all around social media, utility poles, vets, etc. w pic of pet Go out late night w flashlight and speak softly outside for a bit until cat feels safe to come out of hiding. Flashlight may catch the cats eyes and light them up. Set up trap w tuna, cats smell and your worn clothing. Post on “Nextdoor” (so many cat reunite on nextdoor) and for “The Love of Louie”. Cats won’t come to you, they depend on you to find them. Scroll thru this site daily. Someone just found theirs by sleeping outside on their porch w flashlight on their face. They had food w them also. You are the best person to get kitty back. CHECK SHELTERS OFTEN! THEY DON’T KEEP LONG. Ck craigslist daily for any FOUND cats in your area. Traps really work. Keep older cat inside. They get lost. Play sound of kitties crying and cat may come out of hiding. Put a live trap out by the door, and leave the garage door open about 6-8" with cat food in it. To trap cat: A rescue bought a rotisserie chicken (or tuna) from Kroger and shredded some with some juice and got it in the first try in a trap. They don’t go far from home because they are scared and come out at night time, when quiet. If you use a trap, monitor frequently & also put a blanket in it with your scent. Keep checking this site daily for at least a year.

What a beautiful baby prayers pull some ads up around the area rewards always helps go out walking the neighborhood several times during the day and several times very late at night. They are more active at night when it’s quiet outside go out with a flashlight shaking a treat bag calling for your cat. Ask your local neighbors to check their garages sheds under deck under vehicles behind bushes go out several times during the day and night keep your eyes and ears open. They are usually found within 5 to 10 ounces from home. They usually come home between the hours of 12 AM and 7 AM when it’s very quiet outside. check with your local animal shelter and humane society check with them daily praying post some adds on local Lost and Found pet sites. You should be able to Google four or five in the area. You can also try putting your cats bed, blanket toys, and some of your dirty clothing from inside the house. Do not wash these items such as T-shirt, sweaters, blankets sheets, put these items out on your porch. Keep your eyes open animals have a great sense of smell change outside items every couple of days this works great for cats and dogs. This work for me if it rains, change outside items, daily prayers keep your eyes and ears open all through the day and all through late at night. Prayers.
