Here are some tips Check every possible hiding place. Look under porches, decks, sheds, parked vehicles, bushes, crawl spaces and staircases. Ask neighbors to check garages and storage buildings. Cats can hear their owner's voice but may be too frightened to respond, even when you're standing nearby. 2. Search at night with a flashlight Search between 10 PM and 5 AM. Shine a flashlight underneath bushes, decks and vehicles. A cat's eyes will often reflect the light, making it easier to locate them. Speak softly, use familiar sounds like shaking treats, and stop frequently to listen. Avoid shouting or chasing a frightened cat. 3. Help your cat find home - Put an unwashed shirt or blanket with your scent near your entrance. - If safe, monitor a sheltered entrance with a security camera. - Place a small amount of familiar, strong-smelling food outside while monitoring it. - Search around dawn and dusk. - Ask nearby homeowners to check their security-camera recordings. Avoid leaving large amounts of food unattended because it can attract wildlife. 4. Notify the neighborhood Post a clear photograph and your telephone number on: - Local Facebook Lost & Found Pets groups. - Nextdoor. - PawBoost. - Petco Love Lost. - Local veterinary offices and animal shelters. Report the cat's microchip as missing, if applicable. Check with shelters repeatedly rather than relying only on a telephone description. According to Humane World for Animals, most missing cats are recovered less than one-third of a mile from where they escaped. Humane World for Animals +1 5. If you spot your missing cat Don't run toward it! Even a friendly family cat may run away when frightened. Crouch, turn slightly sideways, speak gently and allow the cat to approach you.
