Report it to ANIMAL CONTROL as well as Vets and SHELTERS with a picture in case they are brought in injured or for a chip check. Include Groomers and Pet Stores Put up lots and lots of FLYERS!!! Give to neighbors, attach to mailboxes, put up at stores, library, grocery stores everywhere! Give to your postal carrier as they see animals all the time! Sit outside and read a book out loud, the sound of your voice can lure him/her back if he’s close by. Drag his/her bedding around the area of your home. Please create a free account at Petfbi.org This account will send out an alert that s/he is missing, and send you an alert if anyone were to report a cat found near that location. That account could help get your cat back home too. Put on Facebook lost pets page in your town/state etc..and on your local town page!! Check trees, under, in and behind things in your yard and others often. Make your neighbors aware. Please check yours and neighbor’s garages, sheds, porches, barns, basements and under and in vehicles, Cats like to come out @ night so leave A LIGHT ON THE PORCH WITH FOOD and IT'S BEDDING near a CRACKED OPENED DOOR OR WINDOW FOR ENTRY.... NEVER put out litter boxes as it could be used by another cat which could DETER return or attract predators. Use a camera or baby monitor to watch for his /her return, using a havaheart trap with tuna to catch them as well as an unlaundered piece of your laundry. If u put food out be very careful and monitor very closely as it can attract predators. You can borrow a trap from animal control or cat rescue. The ACO or a rescue can help u on how to trap a cat. U must never leave trap unattended. If there are sightings set up a feeding station and camera at sighting area, then when he is spotted on camera you can trap him. It can be helpful to use a flashlight at night to spot its eyes! Look around shrubs, under cars, decks, porches, in garages, sheds, up in trees, in yours and neighbor’s yards. Calling for it several times a day and shaking treats, indoor cats can become disoriented. Calling out helps in RECOGNIZING YOUR VOICE AND DIRECTION! Your cat is in survival mode and may not act as they usually did, he is afraid. Please DO NOT give up! Continue to check & recheck EVERYWHERE. Monitor Facebook, Craigslist and Nextdoor sites for found cats. Cats have been found several years after. Don’t give up, keep the faith and keep looking!!! Put cameras outside, leave door open at night, and contact a cat rescue or www.wanderingpawsk9.com a reputable pet tracker to help you. Go out late at night or pre-dawn when it's quiet. Call out name of kitty softly if kitty eats kibbles bring a bag and shake it. Kitty is probably close by check under bushes and under pouches. Don't give up, it may take several tries.. Good luck!

Drag scent trails… Your cat may be hiding under a porch, a shed, or a car, behind bushes, or in a wooded area. Go out late at night with a flashlight that might reflect against the cat’s eyes, and call out to your cat gently. Or shake a bag of treats, sometimes better than your voice to attract a cat that’s scared. Create scent trails on the grass and ground leading up to your home (or to a trap, ideally monitored with a trail cam, so you can respond quickly when the cat is in the trap). Get a towel and rub it with your dirty laundry, blankets, socks, or anything else with the scent of home. (Do not use kitty litter.) Tie a rope to the towel and drag it from the areas where you think the cat might be, creating scent trails leading to your house (or the trap). You won’t smell the scent on the towel or the ground, but the cat will. (If you use a trap, load it with a little cat food, chicken or tuna, enough to attract the cat from the trail that leads up to it. Rely on the scent trails to get your cat to the trap.) Rain and snow will wash away the scent trails, so you’ll have to drag again afterwards. Also, renew the trails every couple days. Try to remain patient and hopeful. Some cats only show up after many days or even weeks. Important: . Never leave a trap unattended, always keep an eye on it, checking it every 1/2 hour in person or with a trail cam. Position the trap close to where the cat escaped or was last seen. . Trail cam photos and videos are marked with time stamps, helpful to know if and when the cat shows up but doesn’t go into the trap. . Post flyers in the area with a picture of your cat and your contact information. . Even if you don’t have a trap or a trail cam, scent trails leading from several directions to your home can work.

CAT RESCUE TIPS FOR INDOOR CATS THAT HAVE ESCAPED If your cat has escaped and not familiar with the outside world, he/she is 99% of the time hiding right outside in your backyard or neighbors yard. When they get out, they get nervous and make a quick sprint for the first place they see to find shelter/cover. Put outside his/her bedding, or your worn clothing for the scent so your cat can smell its way back to the house. You can even sprinkle vacuum dust. It will have his or her hair /scent in it. Also, it’s very important to get in those bushes, woods etc around your house and search for him/her. Cats are great at staying stealth quiet and staying in place for days out of fear , everything and everyone is scary right now, including you. During the day, put out its favorite stinky food, or tuna/sardines etc and water so your cat doesn’t stray for food. What works best, is at night, take a strong flashlight and look for your cat in the bushes with the flashlight. If he/she is there, you will see his/her eyes with the reflection of the light. And don’t forget to look up in the trees. It could have been chased by a coyote and it ran up a tree. I’ve heard this happen a few times. Additionally, you can set a trap ( haveahart trap ) you can buy at Home Depot or ask your local animal control to borrow one and put a blanket or your dirty clothing in it with stinky food and cover the trap with a towel so they feel safe once caught. But no food at night. You can also get a wildlife tracker camera from Amazon or any sporting goods store. The camera will show any movement at night and if your cat is around the camera will pick up its location /area it’s in. Also, if there is a lot of rain, please make scent trails for your cat around the exterior of your house after the rainfall. Google how to create scent trails. Another tip, call your cats name at night, when it’s quiet, try sitting outside shake treat bags too. ( but do this when it’s quiet out) cats tend to move around at night when there is no noise . After midnight Ask your neighbors to check their garages, sheds, under decks etc. even basement if there is access through cellar doors. It can take weeks but your cat is still most likely around trying to survive. It’s also very important to create flyers and put them around town in people’s mailboxes too. Keep your cat’s photo out there on social media, so people remember your cat’s photo and stays fresh in their mind. I’ve seen cats that have been missing for months found again even a few towns over.
