Message from Owner

Manny is a rather friendly but outdoor barn cat we care for, and we love him very much. He occasionally wanders and visits the neighbors but then returns home. He has been gone a very long time so we are very worried. His collar tracker battery failed soon after he left, but he is probably still wearing it. He is chipped.

Lynne Elkins I just read it again and missed he was a barn cat. Im going to have to start using my glasses more. But still a chance they will get away or killed since outside.

Please be careful of scammers that will comment suggesting a rescue group that helped them find their pet and they provide a link to a scam site. These scammers have taken money from many pet parents. There is at least one that already commented here. Do Not contact the scammer or the fake scam group. I hope that Manny comes home soon.

It sounds like you are maybe unfamiliar with the need to relocate basically unadoptable outdoor cats for their own safety, and the success of barn cat/working cat programs in helping with this serious problem in many communities? Cats that do not tolerate living indoors and are considered unadoptable to indoor homes by rescues and shelters do still, in fact, deserve care and the safest living conditions possible, even if it isn't the ideal/perfect situation of fully indoor cats. Here is one such program through the Pennsylvania SPCA, but many rescues manage their own outdoor working cat relocation programs: https://pspca.org/adoption-programs/. We opened our barn to these cats in need, and they have a good life. Our barn cats have a fully climate controlled room with heated beds, with access to fresh water, food, litter, toys, beds, and us. We feed them wet food every day, give them whatever attention they want or will tolerate, and make sure they have monthly flea/tick/parasite treatments and are fully vetted and vaccinated with annual visits and care. Manny is a little friendlier, but closely bonded to a much more feral cat who won't let us come close. They are big enough to be at very low risk from the predators in this area, and generally savvy adults. We keep them as safe as we can while meeting their actual needs, and we realize there is no one-size-fits-all answer in situations like this. I know it's the internet, but there's truly no need to comment on something if you are not going to be helpful. If you are not our neighbor and have not seen Manny in the past week, I'm not sure why you are responding to this, other than to scold or judge strangers when you don't know anything about the situation.

This is my post about Manny, if you find it easier to contact us here! Some of the details got cropped by Pawboost, so I will add that the battery in his tracker collar so we unfortunately don't have tracking information on him; he is probably still wearing the breakaway collar, though. Manny normally stays pretty close to home, near 352 between Gradyville Rd and Valley Rd in Gradyville (Edgmont/Glen Mills), but we know he likes to visit a couple neighbors. There is no real neighborhood group online for our area, so our hope is this reaches some neighbors who may not see it otherwise. Please let us know if you think you have seen him! (FYI, the cat that was hit by a car on 352 east of Gradyville Rd last week was not him.)
