We’re so sorry. I will post on Missing Angels - Long Island & Long Island Lost & Found Pets Act Immediately: Time is critical, as they may become scared or fly further away if not spotted quickly. Use the Cage: Place the cage on a porch or high, visible spot. They may return to a familiar, safe place. Search Nearby: Check nearby trees, roofs, and wires. They usually fly only a short distance before landing, often because they are too terrified or tired to fly far. Avoid Chasing: Do not chase the bird, as this will frighten it and cause it to fly further away. Use Audio/Visual Cues: Play recordings of other Cockatiel or budgies sounds or call their name, as they are social creatures and might respond to familiar sounds. Alert Neighbors: Tell neighbors to keep an eye on bird feeders, as escaped birds may visit them for food. Since your bird has escaped, don’t panic. Many pet birds stay close to home, especially during the first 24 hours. ✅ Search immediately. Look in nearby trees, rooftops, fences, and bushes. Listen carefully for your bird’s calls or chirping. ✅ Bring their cage outside. Place the cage where your bird can easily see it. Add their favorite toys, treats, fresh food, and water. ✅ Play familiar sounds. Call your bird by name using the same words or whistles you use every day. You can also play recordings of your own voice or sounds from their flock mate if they have one. ✅ Search early in the morning and at sunset. Birds are often more vocal during these quieter times, making them easier to locate. ✅ Ask neighbors to look up. Your bird may be perched high in a tree or on a rooftop where it’s difficult to see. ✅ Post clear flyers and share online. Include a recent photo, your contact information, the location where your bird was lost, and the date and time. Post in local lost-and-found pet groups, neighborhood pages, and community apps. ✅ Contact local animal shelters, bird rescues, veterinarians, and animal control. Not everyone knows where to report a found bird, so notify as many places as possible. ✅ If you spot your bird, stay calm. Avoid chasing them. Speak softly, offer a favorite treat, and try to encourage them to fly or climb down to you. If possible, have someone bring the cage while you keep your bird in sight.
