If he isn’t in someone’s home, he could have been taken to the local shelter, although most people just let cats be, and don’t. Let your local shelter know he is missing. When you go looking for him, you might want to do it just before dusk. Be aware of any nearby coyotes and if there are any, don’t look for him at that time. Try to call him in a quiet voice (and try to sound cheery) while using the same voice tone that you call for him in your home. (So he doesn’t think he’s in trouble.) You literally need to start in your yard & back yard, under bushes, sheds, etc. Be on the lookout for poisonous snakes. Look up too, as he could be in a tree. He probably isn’t that far away. Also, Here are some other suggestions 🐾 ♦️Check your local PawBoost (you can do this on FB,) and look to see if your kitty is posted as FOUND. If not, then post a MISSING post. There is no cost for basic but do include your phone number where it asks for it. NOT in the body of your post. Keep checking back often, and look at new Found cats posted. ♦️I hope 🙏 your kitty is microchipped. If so, make sure his registration info is up to date. ♦️ Alert your area animal shelters, starting with one closest to you. Many of them allow you to do an online LOST PET report and then you’ll be in their database. Check the found databases there, daily. Go, in person if you can. Notify your veterinarian. ♦️Post in other local Facebook Lost & Found pet forums, as well as 24PetConnect, etc. Post on NextDoor, and check CraigsList, or other sales media where a finder may try to “re-home” your pet. ♦️Make MISSING posters & flyers. You can get a free flyer template from PawBoost. Use 8 x 10 neon paper for flyers. Also, use page protectors. For larger signs, use large neon poster board and neon markers too. Most pets are found within a mile of their home, especially cats. Starting from home, walk your neighborhood (not alone!) and speak to neighbors and hand out flyers. Put flyers in empty mailboxes or on front doors. Put up flyers on street corners while you walk the neighborhood up on telephone poles, about 5 ft high. Staple on wood; tape on metal. Share flyers with local stores, veterinarians, pet stores; anywhere you can to let people know about your missing kitty. ♦️You are NOT required to give anybody money to return your pet. Lost Cats‼️ Indoor only cats and limited outdoor access cats never go far. They go into survival mode and hide in silence. Most of them will not respond when they are in survival mode. 3 AM is the best time to find a missing indoor only cat. This is the time they become most active and responsive. Sit and quietly call for your kitty. Try to stay low, standing is intimidating to cats. Place some dirty socks and pillow cases outside. Your scent will attract your kitty. If you have a garage, place the items near the garage door and crack the door enough for her to get in. DO NOT leave food or litter box outside, it can attract predators and aggressive Tom cats. Because indoor only cats hide so well they are not as likely to be killed by a predator. Don't give up, it can take months to find a missing indoor only cat. Use a flashlight as late at night as you can to look in trees, under cars and in bushes. Try to look for the glow of her eyes. The best chance of you being reunited with your cat is to do a methodical search of the area. Most indoor only cats will be within 160 feet of your home. Survival mode lasts 5 to 14 days but can last longer. Once their hunger gets to a maximum they can snap out of it but this is a dangerous time because they come out of hiding. The majority of cats will try to make a break for home on the 5th night. In addition to posted flyers, make mini flyers and hand them out to your neighbors. Some people don't pay attention to posted flyers. It's VERY VERY important that you look for her as late at night as you can. If you have other cats, watch them. If they are spending a lot of time looking out a certain window, that’s a good indication the missing cat is in that area. Wildlife and motion activated cameras are also helpful. a lot of people are successful trapping their indoor only cats. If you decide to trap, you must watch the trap closely, predators can a cat in a trap.
