When an indoor-only cat gets lost, they will not wander far away, and they are most likely very scared and keep hiding. If your cat is microchipped, immediately report missing and make sure the contact information is correct. It is very important to post and check on nextdoor, petcolove, Facebook local lost and found groups, neighbors by ring, and Pawboost best with phone number. Nextdoor and petcolove are very useful and important for lost and found pets. Check less popular websites like PETFBI and lostmykitty. Physical searching is key: the best time to look for a missing indoor-only cat is late night when everything is quite. Walk around the blocks with a bright flashlight: check under cars, in bushes, up trees and roofs, and storm drainage along the streets, and softly call cat name and shake treats. check your block and all the neighboring blocks, and expand the searching if not found. Hand out flyers to neighbors and ask them to check garages, sheds, backyards, outbuildings. Put your used clothes, cat blanket, food, and water at your front and back door, or crack your garage with the above stuff inside. Set up a trap in your backyard or the place that has a confirmed sighting at night, and cover it with your newly used clothes and cat blanket . Traps need to be monitored all the time.

Go out with a flashlight and call for him. Look under decks and porches, in backyards, if there are any sheds on the neighbor’s property look in them. Ask neighbors if they have seen him. Post signs all around, in front of your house and on your car. Put scent items under your window and near your front door. Look up trees, call for him. Walk around your neighborhood, it’s likely he’s not far - just might be hiding in bushes or shrubs trying to keep warm. When you are out looking be sure to have something to secure him with so he doesn’t get away from you (like a blanket, pillow case, carrier). If you see him DO NOT walk toward him, just stand and quietly call. Sitting down will also invite him to you. You don’t want to frighten him away. Don’t give up hope, my kitty was gone 6 weeks and I called for her day and night. She finally came home. Also, check with your local animal shelter and bring them a picture with your contact number on it in case someone brings him in or if he gets picked up. Sending energy for your reunification.
