Lost Cat Tips Male or female Shes / he’s probably going to try and come home on her own in the middle of the night. Usually through the same way they got out but they can run to the backyard if they got out from the front door. You need to leave someway for them to come in on their own overnight. If you don’t have any other pets, please consider leaving the back and front doors slightly open over night or a window and stay in the living room if you wish. They usually try to come in on their own at night at least once esp in the beginning few days. You need to do a lot of printed handouts, and go door to door knocking leaving the handouts with people on Your street and over one street both sides. Add Posters to poles around your block and on community mail boxes. Think 300 handouts and 30 posters. Go door to door knocking asking people to check their garages ,sheds backyards , security cams and if you can go into their yards to check under the decks. When checking , use a strong flashlight even in the day time ((not a cell phone flashlight)) to search underneath deck patio sheds day or night use a flashlight to look for glowing eyes. She’s / hes probably within 6 house radius. You must Check peoples back yards, ask them to go Look yourself with a light under their bbqs decks etc. scared and lost cats won’t go far, they’re usually hiding very close by . If she likes treats , Call her regularly shake Temptations treats , or even walk around pouring her kibble into a bowl if she responds to the sound of kibble being poured. But most importantly, you need have a way to monitor if she’s trying to come in on her own. Most of the time they will try for a first little while to come in by themself in the middle of the night when it’s extremely quiet like around 1 - 4AM . when it’s very quiet and no cars on the road leave the door slightly open and braced . No other animals will come in don’t worry. Try to get a Wi-Fi camera for the back yard if you have no cameras to see if they are coming around the house and leave any doors open overnight. Wifi Cameras only $70 Best Buy and connect to your Wi-Fi and your phone. Wyze cameras from Amazon are 40$ leave food and water in front of a door ring camera to be monitored , even water with catnip in it in front of the door cam or neighbours door cams if you dont have one. MONITOR by cam to see who is eating and don’t feel too most to not attract other cats . You can see if she’s coming for food or water. Talk to all the neighbors, any houses that have security cameras and to speak with them and leave them an image of the cat and ask them so if they are OK leaving some treats and water in front of their cameras, throughout the day and at night, and maybe give them a bag of Temptations each. And have them just put some food out for a few days and a few nights , not a lot just a couple of treats here and there and see if he will emerge. If they are not willing to put food, ask them to leave water with catnip in it. A lot of people have ring cams, door cans, or backyard cameras, and if they had a picture or a flyer of him and an opportunity to help they might take it. Walkaround, shaking, Temptations treat bag or pouring dry kibble back-and-forth in a bowl . Especially when it’s very very quiet at night in the middle of the night, doing the same thing from your porch or from your backyard, depending on which direction is most likely to return from to encourage him to start walking back towards the house. Post on NextDoor app and other local fb groups. This helps a lot to raise awareness and get you a sighting. STAY CALM & start the search and any applicable ideas listed below asap 1-Remember to never chase /run after a lost cat as it can scare them further out of their area. Even if you are the owner, a truly scared Cat is not thinking right & might instinctually run if anyone approaches. If you see him, Let cat come to you as much as possible or set up a monitored humane trap . If you can, leave the back door/ garage and or window open in your house for them to come back! 2. Call out cat's name from ONE spot few times PER HOUR, every hour . Calm Calling cat consistently from one spot may help kitty find home if it’s disoriented. It should be tried ASAP from the first moment . Along with leaving the door open . Around evening call your cat in a loud and intelligible voice for a full 5 minutes, calm and try to do this 3 times per hour, At a minimum call your cat 10 times a night, This helps the cat locate its home, especially if they got spooked, hurt, or disoriented. Don’t give up after a few weeks . Keep calling . Repeat this method night after night. It may take days or even weeks, 3- Check these links: 3 https://www. homeatlastrescue.ca/my-cat-is-missing/ 3.1 Www. catsinthebag.org for great tips for finding lost cat 3.2 Lost cat tips: watch this https://www. facebook.com/FrontStreetAnimalShelter/videos/388310901737884 3.3 https://www. dailypaws.com/cats-kittens/cat-safety-tips/how-to-find-a-lost-cat 3.4 Lost Cat Behaviour: https://www. missinganimalresponse.com/lost-cat-behavior/?fbclid=IwAR0pPIYgBKy2rYztXfVqDLR4q4TgRsAhOIO6EShSf_snCxmI0LGG73pm_H8 5. Typically the cat is going to try to return the same way it left so leave an opportunity for it to come back, especially at dusk and over night!! Maybe leaving a window or door or garage door slightly open with you monitoring from the inside for the cat to return on its own at night. This is common. If you have a garage door, leave it slightly open 24/7 . Leave some dirty used clothes and stinky shoes out for the smell to guide kitty home. Empty the contents of your vacuum cleaner in back yard. Always Leave water out for him/her. Put posters and stick flyers in mailboxes and under doors Matts with picture as a neighbour could have your cat. Flyers flyers and more flyers , door door flyers , and street neon street posters . Knock on neighbours' doors to ask , don’t be shy. Ask them if they AND you can check under their decks, sheds, RVs, in bushes, under cars, hoods, backyards, and in their garages. Ask if you can check yourself nightly. (Do this every night and early in the morning.) Walk around with a flashlight at night and even day as cat's eyes will reflect the light! Keep shaking the treat bag and listen for faint meowing. Usually lost cats don't go far, are quiet, and hiding within 6-10 houses radius from where they were lost. If they are missing for more than a week try putting posters even further from you one block radius. cats may hide in silence for 3-5 days and come out for water and food when it's very quiet And they get desperate or brave enough Usually between 10:00 pm - 5:00 am. This is a good time to be calling out your kitty's name. Repeat the search night after night, as necessary. Usually come out after rain. They will probably to return way they escaped- try to leave door, window, shed or garage open.

Many of these tips work. Here are some good tips people gave me when they found their lost cats: I know this is a lot to read but please read it it will help you find your kitty Don’t wait until your kitty comes home. The most important thing is go out there right away talking to neighbors and ask if you can check their garages and sheds under sheds, under stairs, decks, trees and under bushes and your own backyard, under cars and up trees another cat was found in a garage also check everywhere in your house. Cats don’t make a sound when they are scared. your kitty might be locked in somewhere. and putting up posters everywhere even a few streets over and on the end of your drive way with a picture of your cat and your info not everybody is on facebook. . Put a piece of clothing and shoes that you have worn and a cardboard box and food put it outside leave your garage door and bat window open a bit. Have a trail of treats going to your house. Use a toy on a string cats like to play and a laser pointer. Some cats came home between 2 am and 5 am. Take posters with your info to all shelters even outsite your area and vets in person and check them every few days; they may identify a male cat as a female cat at shelters and check kijiji and check and join every facebook site in your area people share and comment on them. Not everybody likes cats and they will not check their sheds and garages nor post lost cats. When cats are scared, they don’t make a sound Check construction sites some cats were found in unfinished bats. recently lost cats were found locked in a shed, a garage, stuck under sheds, decks stairs and crawlspace and couldn’t get out. on a window sill, and in a neighbour's bat, in the attic and in a neighbour's car engine , window wells in empty houses and under cars under tarps one was found locked in a camping trailer one was found in a mattres in the house. Someone found her cat DOWN IN A 5 FOOT DRAIN ON NEIGHBOR'S PROPERTY. Some cats get disoriented and can’t find their way home extend your search a few streets over. best times to go look for your cat are dusk or first light. Take a flashlight with you, cats' eyes will reflect back at you. BE CALM ..POSITIVE ..CALL LIKE YOU SEE THEM ..CALL VERY SOFTLY ... CALL OFTEN .. SHAKE TOY TREATS. . Some cats came home between 2 am and 5 am. Some people said the cat came home when the emptied the vacuum cleaner on their lawn. Cats were found between5 and 10 km away from home please extend your search with posters. Some cats were gone for weeks and month and were found so please don’t give up your kitty is out there waiting for you. Also every town has a TNR they feed feral and stray cats find out where they are and check a lot of cats were found at the feeding stations. Good luck I pray your will find your kitty. Is there any places they can get into the ceilings? Or even open duct work? Also check closets or washer/dryer if there is any chance it was left open just a bit. Couches and box springs are another popular place for them to hide. They can be very sneaky! This is what this lady said--- Wow so thanks to everyone advice I literally shook the contents of the vacuum into the air in the backyard softly called her name and sat down shaking some treats 5 mins later I hear a faint meow and she appeared. I now swear by the vacuum at dusk trick. Thank you everyone. Hopefully my neighbors dont think I'm crazy. I've been in I their backyards all day. And then shaking the contents of the vacuum into the wind. Lol i cant thank you all enough. A lady said she used my tips and found her kitty under a shed. Another lady made a scent trail with his litter and old smelly tshirts to lure him from the ravine to the front door. This lady said I did the vacuum thing and shook the treats. 3 mins later I heard meowing. Sprinkle catnip around the yard. PLEASE NEVER GIVE UP. I pray you will find your kitty call every 15 min stand in same spot. They need to follow your voice and go to you

Pls check w all your neighbors to let them know u r missing your cat. Ask to check all sheds porches etc. And bushes. Usually they don't go far at first. Timing is essential. Posters help too. Go out at night with flashlight and shine into dark area. Eyes will reflect light. Bring fave treats. Do not put out litter. You can put out kitties bedding or your clothes/blankets during the day.
