Gus's Owner Says

Thank you so much to everyone who spread the word and helped us look for our Gus kitty! Yesterday while playing outside with my son I heard distressed meowing, and was able to locate our cat huddled in the very back corner of our yard behind years of overgrowth. After a vet appointment today we have confirmed that he is in good health even after being outside during Hurricane Isaias. We are so grateful to have our Gus home!

We found our kitty today! I was out in the backyard playing with Atticus and heard distressed meowing in the back corner of our yard behind our shed. He was under a bunch of vines and overgrowth in the very very back corner. I got all scratched up, trying to get to him, but of course he’s worth it. I don’t know if he was back there the whole time or just found his way back to us. I definitely checked around there and called him and didn’t hear any response. Also he at first seemed stuck, or like he thought he was stuck. But once I was close enough to see him he did extricate himself from the tangle of vines around him. We’re taking him to the vet tomorrow to make sure he’s good to go!

Kathy Stidham I wanted to update that I reached out to both BCAS and Lynn Haven Animal Control (along with some other rescues I could think of) and no one has him. I will keep checking all their websites to be safe, but I sent everyone I have contacted his picture and description so hopefully they will be on the lookout for him.

My indoor only male black cat got out once. We put out all the scents. Old blankets, our unwashed clothes, his scratch post, his empty dirty litter box, vacuum dust etc. My nextdoor neighbor would see him trying to return during the day while we were at work. Then get scared and run off into nearby woods. I started setting my alarm for 3am while it was quiet and go out calling him. Finally after 5 days I heard him crying in very thick bushes Nextdoor to our house. I saw his eyes with my flashlight. I had to literally crawl to get him. He was like afraid to move. I finally got him . They usually don’t travel far. They will hunker down close by.

Kathy Stidham I tried Lynn Haven Animal control today but couldn’t get in touch with anyone, and when I showed up no one was there. I assume with the storm that may have impacted their hours. I left a voicemail and am going to try again on Tuesday. Any suggestions for other shelters?
