DOES ANYONE RECOGNISE THIS CAT? 🐈‍⬛ — OWNER SEARCH I’m trying to establish whether this lovely boy has an owner, or whether he may be an unowned/stray cat, before I can arrange the care he needs. I’ve known of him being around South London for approximately 4–5 years, and until recently we always assumed he was owned. Initially, he was extremely wary of people and would run from any humans who approached him. Over time, by feeding him and gradually gaining his trust, I’ve got to know a very different side of him. He’s now incredibly affectionate with me, very vocal and quite athletic, with a distinctive croaky meow and a lovely loud purr. I’d been feeding him and gaining his trust because he had become noticeably thin, and my plan was to take him to the vets to have him checked over. I had also been in contact with Celia Hammond Animal Trust about him while I was gaining his trust, but at the time they were inundated with other priorities, including kittens, so I continued to look out for him myself. Then he disappeared for three weeks. When he returned, he was wearing a red reflective collar with a distinctive white paw-shaped tracker. He had also come back with a very damaged tail and a shaved area around his backside. The collar and tracker made us think that he must have an owner, but he has subsequently lost both the collar and tracker. I took him to the vets on Friday 4th September , where he was scanned for a microchip — unfortunately, no microchip was found — and they confirmed that he has not been neutered. As there may still be an owner, the vets aren’t able to carry out a full examination or treatment at this stage. If nobody comes forward, I can then discuss with them what needs to be done to properly check him over and arrange the appropriate care. He had become very skinny and had clearly been getting food wherever he could, which was why I initially became concerned that he might be a stray. I’ve included some photos from last year because the difference in his weight is quite noticeable. I’m posting this widely across London and South London to try to establish his history and, most importantly, find out whether someone owns him or knows where he has come from. If you recognise him, know who the red reflective collar/white paw tracker belonged to, or have any information about him, please get in touch. If he does have an owner, I obviously want to make sure he is reunited with them. If nobody comes forward, I can then work with the vets and follow their advice to make sure he gets properly checked and receives the care he needs, including being microchipped and neutered if appropriate.
