I would put the cat's litter box outside, under cover, along with some really smelly cat food and some clothes you wore recently to attract the cat. Keep an eye on it. Some people say not to put the box/food out because it might attract predators. I have known it to work. Check carefully around the outside of your house and your neighbors’ houses. Cats don't usually go far initially and they can tuck themselves into unbelievably small and unusual spaces. One person found her cat hiding in the grill on her patio after searching for three days. Go out late at night when it's quiet and call the cat softly. Make large, easily read flyers and post them around your neighborhood with the cat’s picture and your contact info. Post a lost ad on nextdoor.com. Ask your neighbors to check garages, sheds, under decks - anywhere a cat can hide and get shut in. Borrow a trap from a shelter or vet. Don’t give up. Good luck!

What a handsome cat! Here are some researched suggestions from pet experts to help you find your lost cat. The number one method that was the most successful in recovering a missing cat was conducting a physical search of the area. Most escaped indoor-only cats were roughly a 2 ½ house radius from their owner’s home! They are so frightened by their outdoor surroundings that they will hide. Making a deep search of the nearby area is critical. Indoor cats will hide and not come out during the day. They may not come when you call them. Don’t get discouraged, search every day. If your cat knows the area and is comfortable outside, it would be considered an Indoor/Outdoor cat. They may go further away (17-house radius). They know where their home is, something else has stopped them from coming home. They may have been scared away by another cat or predator, they could be accidentally stuck somewhere, or injured. If your cat has been outside a lot and knows the area, he may be considered an indoor/outdoor cat. He knows how to get home, something has stopped him from returning. Start with the homes that are close by. However, you may need to expand the search area. Asking neighbors to look for your cat can be tricky. They will say yes, but often they are UNABLE or unwilling to do a deep search. Most people will let you know if they see the cat. However, many people are unable to get down on the ground and look under a deck or automobile. They will go into a shed, but may not be able or willing to move items and do a deep search. Ask the neighbors if YOU CAN SEARCH under their deck or in their garage, or do it together. That is where they are most likely to be . Obtaining permission from your neighbor to search their property is critical. One cat owner got permission from the neighbors to do a search on their property in the early morning hours (3 to 5 AM is a key time) and late at night. They also contacted the police to let them know they were doing a search. Good idea! They found their cat. There have been a couple of recent postings from pet owners who found their cat in a drainage ditch or pipe! They could be under the bushes or even in a tree! If you have other animals, watch them. If they are spending a lot of time looking out a certain window, that’s a good indication the missing cat is in that area. Wildlife and motion activated cameras are also helpful. Your cat could be roaming around outside your home and you wouldn’t know it. A camera will help to determine if it is nearby. Ask neighbors to check their Ring camera. IF IT IS SAFE, crack the door open where your cat escaped from so they can get back in. Do the same with your garage door. Many people are successful trapping their cats. Some rescue organizations will rent or let you borrow humane traps . There are some good YouTube videos on how to trap your cat. Note: DO NOT put a litter box or food out. Cats instinctively cover up their waste to protect themselves . The litter box and food will attract predators and Tom cats that could chase your cat further away from home. Make mini flyers with a photo and contact information . Hand them out to your neighbors and anyone in the area that will listen. There are some people who don’t go on social media. Post a large sign in your yard ,or in a common area. Make it the size of a Political or Realty sign. LOST CAT LIVES HERE ! PLEASE HELP! Include a photo or description and contact information. Bicycle riders, runners, walkers, delivery people etc. will see the poster. Contact local shelters, the Humane Society, pet care businesses, and groomers. Get on every pet loss group that you can. Ask your mail carrier, neighborhood workers and delivery people to be on the lookout. I hope your cat is home soon. Stay strong. 😻
