Try putting something he can recognize like his litterbox or one of his toys or blanket or an article of his favourite humans dirty clothing outside where he was last seen. Cats have a very good sense of smell 14 times greater than humans. If he is still in the area he will smell it. It is so important to get a lost pets info out there as soon as possible. Search for him at dawn and dusk as this is when cats are most active.
