A cat that's allowed outdoors, however, is NOT not coming back because it's lost; it's not coming back because it can't. It may be stuck in someone's garage, it may have gotten hit by a car and is under someone's house, or it may have gotten taken by a predator. There are still some good tips at the link: flyers, talking to delivery people, posting on nextdoor and ring and whatnot, lost pet alert on the chip etc etc. White cats are particularly vulnerable to predators, incidentally. and before you start with the I only let him outside in the daytime let remind you, coyotes are not vampires. They always come home. Until they don't.
