Message from Owner

He is not neutered. Very friendly. Responds to his name. He ran away after an ear mite treatment and flea dip. We are very worried about him. Please help him find his way home.

Karla Smith thank you so much for all that information that really helps and makes me feel a little more at ease knowing that there is a possibility he's just a little further away than normal. He definitely is a dominant cat he'll mess up a raccoon so I'm not too concerned about him getting into a fight with other cats what I am concerned about is possibility of getting hit by a car as we are more in the Amish country woods kind of area but praying for a peaceful return.

Krystal Krystal okay, then this advice will be more appropriate. Missing outdoor access cats: I would ask neighbors if they would open their sheds/garages that they don’t use every day to see if your cat accidentally got shut inside. You may want to ask neighbors to open their sheds while you’re standing there just to ensure they actually check. Displacement for outdoor-access cats happens when the cat is chased out of their known territory (i.e. beat up by another cat, chased by a dog, or even panicked by fireworks where the cat bolts in fear and ends up in a yard he has never been in before). It’s possible your cat got pushed further away from your home than normal & he’s now in unfamiliar territory, not able to find his way home. You should make flyers with a couple pictures of your cat, along with your contact information, & ask neighbors to watch for your cat & check their outside security camera footage for sightings. I would hand these out within a 3-4 block radius of your home. When an outdoor cat disappears, it can mean that something has happened to interfere with the cat returning home, such as someone taking the cat in because they thought it was abandoned, the cat is injured, or the cat is trapped somewhere, unable to get out. If you haven’t gone to your neighbors & asked to look under their decks, porches, sheds, etc., I would do that because your neighbors aren’t going to get on their bellies & crawl under places to look for your cat. If your cat has been pushed further away from your property, placing articles of your dirty clothes outside your cat’s usual exit can’t hurt either for scent. Do not put the litter box outside, as it will attract other dominant male cats who will prevent your cat from returning. Of course it’s possible your cat is just outside roaming & will return when they’re ready, but the above suggestions are for other possibilities.

Karla Smith he is mainly an outdoor cat he comes in in the morning to nap throughout the day and he'll eat dinner and then he'll go back out during winter time it's vice versa he's in at night time and he's normally I'll turn the day we don't normally worry because he comes home every day but he has been gone for 5 days now which is why we're concerned

Krystal Krystal Is your cat strictly indoor-only or used to being outside? This difference matters when you’re trying to find them. Indoor-only cats react completely differently to being outside than a cat that’s used to going outside. Indoor only cats rarely will show themselves during the daytime & often will not respond to you calling them. So the chances of a neighbor or even you seeing them during the daytime is unfortunately pretty low. They hide close by, then often return during the night to where they got out of your house, & they try to get back in. If your cat is strictly an indoor cat, then if possible, try leaving the exit point open after dark to see if they will walk back in on their own. Having a camera set up outside the exit point is very helpful to alert you if they’re approaching. If you don’t have a camera at the door your cat escaped through, I recommend buying one today or tomorrow at Walmart & get it set up before dark. If you can’t leave the exit point open after dark, then you still need to set a motion activated camera outside the exit point so you will be alerted if your cat returns during the night. Often you’re sleeping & you don’t know that your cat is returning, trying to find a way back inside. If you get a sighting on the camera, then you can set a humane trap outside the exit point the following night & have it ready at dark. Either way, do not go outside once you leave the exit point open OR you’ve set a humane trap. Let the camera do the work of alerting you to movement outside that door. I don’t recommend setting food or a humane trap outside the exit point until you get a sighting on the camera. You don’t want to attract wildlife & other roaming cats, which will prevent your cat from approaching by having food sitting outside the exit point. Wait until you know your cat is returning before setting a humane trap. Your cat probably won’t approach your house if you’re outside walking around either. Secure any other pets in another room if you leave the exit point open. Place some of your worn clothes outside the exit point for scent & just inside the door. Do not put the litter box outside as it will attract other neighborhood cats who will prevent your cat from returning. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lC_-Dqmx2sU&pp=0gcJCWQCo7VqN5tD&ra=m
