Message from Owner

My cat has been missing for almost 2 weeks now. I’ve been tracking him via AirTag collar then one morning it all of a sudden said he was at Home Depot on sunrise. So I race over there since I was just notified he was there 3mins ago. It’s a 16 minute drive from me but when I got there it showed he was still there! So I’m searching the whole parking lot and start playing the sound so the AirTag will chirp… well I hear it only a few feet away and stew wasn’t there. Only his collar was left in parking space at Home Depot’s parking lot….. HD is 8miles from my hse and 2 hours prior it showed my cat was in the neighbors backyard/hse I know he didn’t walk there in 2 hours. What could’ve possibly happened to him? Is he ok? Is he alive? Is he around Home Depot hiding? Is he inside the neighbors hse and they just ditched the AirTag at hd so they could keep him? What do I do and how can I find him!!? I’m so worried and just want him home 😞

He’s an indoor only cat but got out. Those are all great tips but his collar was found 8 miles away from my house in home depot parking lot. I know he didn’t walk that far in a short amount of time, he was in the neighbors yard late throughout the whole night and in the morning it showed his collar at Home Depot. I showed up there and his collar was found in a parking space on the floor at Home Depot’s parking lot off Sunrise. (I had an AirTag on his collar) I don’t know if he was dumped there and the collar fell off, if someone hurt him so they threw the collar there, or if my neighbor stole him and threw the collar in the parking lot so I couldn’t track him back to their house. No idea. It breaks my heart and I’m worried sick. I love my cat so much and had him since he was a kitten, he’s 3 years old now and has a bonded cat here at home devastated without him. She cries everynight waiting at the door for him 😭 I’ve looked at shelters and tried all of those things yall suggested and still nothing 💔

If also chipped make sure owner contact info is current with chip company. File online lost reports with shelters. Post on Nextdoor and post flyers. Put something outside with the kitty's scent on it and call the cat's name at night when quiet and shake food container. Check in trees and keep checking shelters. If there are homeless camps near that area, you may want to check there as well. Create wallet size flyers for neighbors' doors.

The best thing to do is to talk to your neighbors during the day to see if they have seen your cat. You can also print mini flyers and attach them to your neighbors doors if they are not home. You can use painter's tape so that it is easy for the homeowner to remove. You can also put the flyers in your neighbor's mailboxes. Also, post on Nextdoor to alert neighbors. You will have the best chance to find your cat tonight from 11 pm onward. Use a flashlight and calmly call your cat. Best wishes! 🙏

- Check the house thoroughly as they sometimes hide in the house in unexpected places. -Check underneath your cars, in the car engine area, wheel wells and around the bumpers. -Ask neighbors around you to check garages and sheds as they can sneak in undetected. -See if your neighbors can leave their garages and sheds open for a few hours. Your cat may not come out right away once the doors are open. This is because when cats are in survival mode, they don't always act normal. Your cat may be scared to come out when others are around. - Put a piece of your unwashed clothing outside the last door he/she exited the house from and leave that door open at night so that they can get back inside. - you may want to leave some wet food just inside of the door that they exited as well. Kibble tends to attract raccoons so it's not recommended. - Hang flyers with his/her picture and post all over your neighborhood & surrounding areas. - Take the flyers door to door asking if anyone has seen him/her. - Make mini flyers and attach them on neighbor's doors with painter's tape so that it doesn't ruin the paint. -Walk your neighborhood especially at night calmly calling his/her name and listening as he/she may be hiding in the bushes or under something. - Take a flyer to the shelter. - Put a sign in your yard with his/her picture stating he/she is missing. - Check the shelters in person. - Review shelter's found reports. - File a lost report with the shelters. Between 10pm-5AM are ideal times to find a missing indoor only cat. You can set your alarm for 12 AM, 3 AM, 5 AM etc. Praying for your cat's safe and swift return. 💕🙏💕

Have neighbors check garages and sheds. Have a tree out back? Check that too. Leave your garage door up a little so they can return home to a familiar place. Place a box outside with blankets or even the clothes you wore today so a cat can pick up the scent and make it home. If you are new to this area, have friends keep an eye out at your former home. And please: CHECK THE LOCAL SHELTERS DAILY I hope your kitty makes it back home safe very soon. Please make sure to get your cat chipped once they return, and PLEASE keep them indoors! PLEASE NEVER LOSE HOPE! LOOK UP! Cats are great climbers and looking for them on the ground only is limiting your search. Male wanderers tend to stay within a territory of about 150 acres, while females stay closer to home, roaming only about 40 acres. This means that your average male cat is likely to stay within 1500 feet of home, while your average female tends not to go much farther than 75 yards from your door. Be careful of the lost pet finders. Most of them are playing on your emotions and wanting cash up front.! https://www.pawboost.com/?utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=report_pet_alert_link_lost Sacramento SPCA | (916) 383-7387 Front Street Shelter | 311 or (916) 808-7387 Bradshaw Animal Shelter | 311 or (916) 368-7387 Elk Grove Animal Services | (916) 691-2489 or (916) 714-5115
