Message from Owner

Our daughter’s cat was on our ring camera early morning 9/7/2026 and hasn’t been seen since. She is a very sweet and timid tabby, and it is unusual for her not to linger right around the hse. We are doing everything we can to try to locate her. Any information would be greatly appreciated. This has been devastating for our daughter, as she found her as a kitten in kindergarten, and has raised her the last few years. We are hopeful but also preparing her for what could be a tough life experience. Thank you so much.

Unlike dogs, who run when frightened, cats tend to hide quietly when scared or injured, often not meowing when called. Cats are often found close by so a physical search is often successful. Most cats are found within about 250 yards radius, indoor-only cats within about 25 yards radius. Please put out kitty’s bed, and item of your clothing/pillow case/etc with your scent. Check with neighbors with photos of your cat because sometimes they get shut in garages or sheds accidentally. In the later evening walk the neighborhood, especially with someone to chat with. Walk a few steps and then stop and listen. If you have a treat pkg that makes crinkle sound, take it with and when you stop, shake the bag or make a crinkle sound. Your cat can hear and recognize familiar sounds like your voice from a good distance and may be able to track you home. Also, call from your porch etc several times a day, while shaking treat bag and/or tapping cat food can with a fork! Check up in trees as cats often seek safety in high places. Use a flashlight at dusk/dark to look for glowing eyes; put up flyers; post to the app Nextdoor and/or Craigslist. Personally check your local shelter every couple days instead of calling, if possible. Animals are brought in constantly. Stray animals are available for adoption after a short time. Plus you know your pet best! They probably look/act differently in a shelter environment. If your pet is microchipped, please make sure your contact info is always up to date. If need be, you can update it even when your pet is missing. And still check shelters in person as microchips can sometimes fall out or travel to other parts of the animal’s body. Put a lost pet sign up in your front yard. This is in case someone finds him and drives through the neighborhood to locate his home. If you have a gate that kitty might have trouble getting back through, keep it open as often as you can until kitty returns. Praying your baby comes home soon. Searching at night with a flashlight and calling her name in your normal voice, not yelling it out, is good. Also the eyes will glow if and when the light hits them. Leave out some personal clothing with your or her scent on it. Hope your baby is home inside very soon ❤️

First and foremost, NEVER put food nor a cat's litter box outside. Both will attract wild animals that may harm (or worse) your cat. Search up in trees, under buildings with missing or broken foundation vent covers, up on your roof of your home or storage building, inside of closed garages on your property and ask all your neighbors to check these places on their properties. Cats can get into some places where they cannot get out from without help. Do put some of your unwashed clothing outside near your door. This has helped confused cats find their way back home. Go in person as quickly as possible to all local animal shelters to search for your cat. The kind people answering their phones will not know about all the cats dropped off or brought in by Animal Control. Call all local veterinary offices to check if anyone has brought your cat in to be scanned for a microchip or treated for an injury. Ask them to be on the lookout for your cat. Post photos of your cat all through your neighborhood, going door to door. Also, post photos inside grocery and pet supply stores. Please don't give up searching for your cat. I'm sure it would much rather be safe inside your home than lost outside.

Robert Novack Post on Nextdoor and look at night with a flashlight. Her eyes will glow. If found, please consider indoors-only. Coyotes are a constant threat to outdoor cats, but I hope your kitty is just on an adventure and will be home soon.

Sheri Dickson indoor outdoor. We have cat doors and hide outs all over so we have never had much issue with them roaming or not having an escape. It’s a weird occurrence that’s for sure.

Was she an indoor-only cat that got outside or an indoor/outdoor kitty?
