When my boy went missing, my vet encouraged me to make a scent trail to my house for him. He said, put out his favorite toy, bedding, litter box cleaned, or not, preferably all in a fenced yard, or in the garage with the door up enough just for him to get in. He also said to put out a used pillowcase of the owner and some of the owners old shoes. He said cats hide and sleep during the day, but they are nocturnal and they will be up during the night. My boy came home at 3:30 in the morning.
