Going back up after work today with a live trap, my blanket and food. Going to search around when it gets dark, hoping it brings her out.

List of suggestions, sorry so long, but I hope it could save you grief. This is something I typed long ago and some suggestions may not be applicable to all. Look outside in the dark with a flashlight (eyes will glow), look under everything , in everything, & up. We found our cat this way. She was hiding under sagebrush in the desert behind our house. We brought an open can of tuna (strong scent) and throw blanket to help bring her home tight in our arms. Speak calmly, move slowly. My husband went behind the sagebrush, I came from the front, laying on the desert floor where I could inch up on her, blanket ready to grab. If I didn’t grab her tight she would have darted away. We knew this could be our only chance due to our wildlife. Cats can be extremely frightened so likely won’t come running to your voice like you’d hope. We had to search for our cat on foot and then move very slowly not to scare her farther into the desert. Ask your neighbors to look in their garages and sheds. We found a neighbor cat in our secondary garage, turned out he had been there a couple of days. Even look under cars. Look everywhere you can think of, every day, as often as you can. They may be on the move, not where you looked yesterday but is there today. I’ve read cats tend to stay fairly close to home but of course there are exceptions. Also look in drain pipes (think that’s what they are called) in your area, a lost local dog was found hiding in one, she wouldn’t come to owner, she was in survival mode after being lost for a long time. Owner had to crawl in and bring dog out. Some have been successful by cracking a door or accessible window in case cat returns during late hours or if you’re in another room & miss it’s return. I’ve read to put a piece of owner’s clothing outside near door and/or window (familiar scent), cat box outside too. I’ve also read to crack your garage door and have food/water/bed in case cat returns while your sleeping and maybe cat box so cat stays put vs going outside again to go to bathroom. Put signs up, the more the better w/ cat photo & your contact number. Check with local Animal Services & Humane Society (call and/or see their websites for cat photos. Some say not to put food out as it could attract wildlife and if your cat returns, that could be a problem for the cat, possible confrontation. I’ve also read that some professional pet finders still suggest the food to be left out, of course your call. Also suggest you post with your cat photo on the numerous local Facebook sites, many have found their pets this way. Some you have to sign up in order to post and can take a couple of days for approval. The leads on these sites will also post photos of cats/dogs/birds etc that have been brought in. Also the general public will post about animals they have found & usually with a photo or post about a sighting if they were not able to catch the dog/cat etc. 1. Nextdoor (app and website) 6. SPCA (Facebook or website) 7. Washoe County Humane Society (Facebook & website) 8. Washoe County Regional Animal Services (website & Facebook) Please learn from our mistakes. Our cat mentioned in the desert lived many years after we found her. She was exclusively an indoor cat, someone in the family left the door ajar. She was exclusively indoors because when we first moved here we let our cat Dusty out, the first night, he didn’t come home, I watched & called out to the desert for him all night, as the sun was rising, a huge eagle flew past our yard with Dusty in his talons. Needless to say he was already gone, they break the neck almost immediately per my vet, which is the only positive as cat doesn’t have to go through long suffering as with coyotes. We usually think of coyotes but never birds of prey. My vet Dr. Thompson told me, “there’s no such thing as an old outdoor cat in Reno, if the coyotes don’t get them, the cars will” I added to that, and birds of prey. FYI - if you live in Washoe County, you can get your cats & dogs chipped for free through Washoe County Animal Services. Best wishes.

Cats don’t go far so probably hiding under bushes or in someone’s backyard or garage or even in a storm drain or a tree. Put the dirty cat box outside and some of your dirty clothes so he/ she can smell their way home. CATS DON’T RUN, THEY TEND TO HUNKER DOWN. He/she is close by. Walk the neighborhood, knock on doors, put up flyers. Don’t give up! She/he is depending on you for rescue. Leave a garage door, window or door open a little bit. Cats tend to come back after dark when it is quiet. HE/SHE IS CLOSE by particularly if he is an indoor cat.

Pat that's a really good idea with the vets. Already planned on the shelters.

I would notify all vet offices and shelters in and around the location lost in case some one takes kitty in for a chip check.

I'm her owner. I searched for 5 hours after she went missing yesterday and have been up here since 7 this morning. No one has seen or heard her out here. I left two cans of cat food out here and they weren't touched.
