Lost Cat. Long story short, we were rehabbing this cat, Scout, ' who was hit by a car on Saturday August 8th in Henrico. (He belongs to my elderly mother who couldn't really do his medications). Scout dug a hole in our screen window on the 2nd floor of our hse and escaped on the evening of Friday, August 21st. Scout is a semi feral cat, so he probably won't come to you, but he is not aggressive in any way. We do have a live trap we can set if you see him on your property. He's a grey tabby with white socks, has a clipped left ear (TNR). His most distinguishing feature is probably the white diamond on the top of his nose between his two eyes. Speaking of his eyes, his right eye got injured when he was HBC, so it's not quite 100%. He also has a few cuts, one his right upper lip and another on his left front leg, but otherwise he was recovering well, and had an appointment to see the eye doctor this week before he escaped. We live down Open Meadows lane by the end of the lake. If you see Scout, please let us know so we can try to trap him and get him to the eye doctor, then back home to his siblings

Leave open a garage door, sliding patio door, window, etc. Cats will often hide during the day and move under the cover of darkness and sneak back into the house. Several cats have returned to their owners this way recently. It is effective. Also, keep walking your neighborhood, they usually don’t go very far but can be scared and hiding. Check under decks, bushes, or just sit quietly for hours to see if you see or hear your cat. See if any neighbors have Ring/doorbell cameras or other cameras and ask them to check their footage to see if they see your cat. Also think about setting a humane trap. A lot of shelters or animal rescue groups have them to loan. Cover the trap with a blanket or something so it doesn’t look like a trap. Bait the trap with a food your cat loves. You have to constantly check the trap though. You might catch a wild animal and that is super stressful for the animal (just release it asap), plus, depending on the weather, extreme cold or heat, it can be dangerous. But if you can check a trap every hour or put a camera on it, it is a good way to catch your cat. You may have to camouflage the trap a bit with a blanket or tree branches. Traps can look scary.

Cat is Close by. Check at night under bushes and porches etc with flash light for glow of thr eyes. Leave (ideally in a trap) smelly fish (like mackerel) or hot foods (my cat came back after 16 days to my neighbors grilling burgers). Call at night. Post on pawboost and print physical posters. Put posters in page protectors with closed side up and bottom taped closed. Put them up in area and knock on neighbors doors to ask to look and keep an eye out and give them a flyer for if they see cat. https://www.missinganimalresponse.com/lost-cat-behavior/ https://www.missinganimalresponse.com/intersection-alerts/ https://www.missinganimalresponse.com/neon-posters/ Also, I used https://www.professionalpettrackers.com/

Likely he/she has only gone about 5 houses away and is hiding in the bushes, so ask them if you can search their backyards, and: Walk and call, walk and call, walk and call. He/she will come to your voice. Don't stop until he/she does. Then make him/her indoor only to save his/her life. 😉
