I hope this helps!!! If You Find/ Found A Lost Dog… What You Should AND “”Must”” Do Per NC “Stray/ Found” Dog Laws And Tips on things to do to find the Legal, Rightful Owners:: 1st and foremost… Thank you for taking care of him/ her/ they. You may already know to do the following, but if not, I hope this helps: 🔹You MUST Make a report with animal control!!! Give AC the exact location found and date, along with Full Description of furry and your Contact info and If possible and your able, inform them that you Will Hold onto the found furry yourself, instead of them!! Most facilities are full, plus the furry would be a Lot less stressed in your quiet home. You can also let someone else “Hold” this baby for its stray hold, BUT… u MUST let AC know All their contact info, again, in case Rightful, Legal owner is found or calls/ goes in to look for their missing baby!!! 🔹You MUST/ NEED to Have the Furry scanned for a chip by AC or Any vets office, even the Emergency Veterinary Hospital will scan, 99.999% of vets scan for free And MAKE SURE to tell them you want the furries ENTIRE Body scanned, including Toes, Face, Ears, Etc… it has been Proven that Chips Can/ Do move around!!! 🔹Do NOT Assume this baby has been dumped!!! So Many furries are being Stolen and sadly, there is a sick “tiktok challenge” where ppl are stealing dogs and dumping them 1-3 counties from where stolen😭💔🤬!! Accidents happen too, kids will open the door or not shut the door and a dog Can get out…. So MANY factors!!! Also A “Missing/ Lost” furry Can look like Death/ Extremely Neglected in just 3 days of being missing!!! BE PATIENT and actually Look for Owner (which is the Law)!! 🔹Please do NOT let just anyone take/ foster Found Furry(ies). And… BEFORE giving your address to anyone, Ask for “Proof of Ownership” by asking them to send recent pictures, vet records and/ or ask them to identify any markings/ features NOT visible in the picture. It’s also Best to take Off any Collar, Harness, Etc, if by chance they have one on and ask for description of said collar/ harness. And also, don’t post male or female, any “specific” markings/ features, etc so again, The Rightful, Legal Owner can give those details. There may be people on these sites/ groups that’s looking for dogs to sell, breed, use as bait dogs in dogfighting, flip, etc. They may try to claim without proof, pose as a rescue or offer to hold/ foster until owner is found. BE CAREFUL!!! 🔹TAKE A GOOD PICTURE and Post as “Found” on Facebook on the County found in and outwards up to 3 Counties aways “Lost and Found” Groups and on a few of those Counties yard sale pages, along with Nextdoor App and Pawboost, Etc 🔹Put up Found “Eye Catching” posters at Intersections, Red Lights, Stop Signs within 3 Miles of location Found, bc believe it or not, The owner may not be on social media and/ or FB, Nextdoor App, Etc!! Some people/ person may not know what to do in the case of having a missing furry!!
