Message from Finder

(We have been calling this cat Pocket and desperately want to find their owner/home) Pocket wandered into the kitchen at Syndicated bk around 7-ish on Wednesday, July 8 with NO collar and NO accessories Pocket appears to have a hurt right paw and was friendly to being pet by staff and being held but seemed a bit lost and disoriented and in pain I was easily able to get this cat into a carrier and transport it to VERG hosp for a check-up Vitals were normal; Pocket has since urinated (slightly reddish/deep color could be from holding so long at hosp) and defecated (80% solid bit greenish) Scanned, NO CHIP LOCATED. Pocket is slightly underweight with some muscle wasting. Socialization with people does NOT give me the impression that this is a completely feral/stray cat. Tech and vet noted this seems like it’s somebody’s cat. Pocket only became agitated when vet tried to inspect paw, attempted a bite and landed a scratch. Otherwise has been chill only meowing when seeking a place to urinate/defecate. Very comfortable wandering and exploring new areas, jumping up and down from chairs etc. Elevated heart rate and nervousness but again, comfort and familiarity with the presence of people and human touch. Prescribed gabapentin and currently housed safely and comfortably with food/water/litter and not with other animals. Appetite is low but we’ll see tomorrow. Vet tech sexed as female but then another vet later referred to as male so I cannot comfortably say either. Unknown if spayed or neutered. Pocket was given gabapentin with food tonight for the pain and nerves. Vet was unable to fully inspect the paw, though not actively bleeding or discharge; we are visually monitoring it. I just have a strong feeling based on socialized behavior with people and open curiosity to explore that this is someone’s cat, whether lost or abandoned or a far-from-home bodega cat I’m not sure. It is a bit dirty and roughed up and lean in weight from spending time on the streets, but otherwise chill. Heavy plaque/tartar, no sign of previous dental work. Some dried blood discharge in nose and gums. I will look closer but other than rumpled fur no scars or notched ear or other markers. Multicolored toe beans. Please if you know anything or feel like you know anything, reach out to me. I will only release Pocket to a no- shelter. FIV and Rabies status UNKNOWN. Thank you for reading, please help me get to the bottom of this sweet animal’s story.
