Message from Finder

Saw him a few days ago walking along the 200th near the gas station. He reacted to calls and whistles but keeps a distance. Not interested in treats and eventually walks away. Does not seem aggressive in any way just a little shy. Saw him again near the Walgreens and he reacted the same but got a little closer.

Joni Bryant Wilcox I understand. Maybe my original comment gave you that impression, although that wasn’t the case. Either way, I do appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and advice, and I know it came from wanting to help her. Hopefully we can get her safely contained very soon.

Paola Jordan ~~~ So sorry you stated you were having a problem containing the dog… I’ve been doing this for probably before you were born & was giving you my trained advice as it was apparent you are not trained in… Hopefully this dog will be contained safely…

Joni Bryant Wilcox We have been working on her for weeks. She is extremely skittish, will not allow people close, and she is NOT food motivated. She does not care about treats, dog food, chicken, or anything else we have tried offering her, and she’s scared of traps. We trap dogs almost every day, so we are very familiar with building trust, using food, creating distance, and safe trapping techniques. The problem is that well-meaning people keep trying to approach her, lure her, or “help,” and every attempt causes her to run and potentially puts her in even more danger. That is exactly why we are asking people NOT TO APPROACH HER. We are experienced rescuers and trappers actively working on safely containing her. If you see her, please report the location and leave her alone. That is genuinely the best way to help us get her to safety.

Paola Jordan ~~~In this situation: You must take the time to seat on the ground facing away from the dog… Have treats & toss one toward the dog still not looking @ the dog… Tossing treats so each one is closer to you… You are building trust… Don’t reach for the dog , he will come when the trust is built, a treat in your open hand… This will take time

~~~Give a copy of the picture with information to the mailman in the area… They encounter many people & situation… Put a sign with information & picture in your front yard if you can & @ stop signs… Someone may have him thinking he was abandoned… Someone may have a camera that captured something… Always get your animal microchipped, it gives a better chance of being reunited… If the dog is microchipped, call the company ASAP … Report you animal missing to your local dog pound… PetCo has free software that uses photo recognition to match your photo to photos from rescues and shelters. Shared with many prayers
