Mary, you’re doing everything right. Faith is hiding closer than you think! Make sure to keep looking in YOUR YARD at night with a flashlight. She is very scared and hiding very close… most likely in YOUR OWN YARD. Faith will stay hiding and not want to be seen by anyone or anything. Look up in the trees and UNDER EVERYTHING and inside any small openings. You'd be surprised at what tiny openings they can squeeze into and under. Before I knew about all these tips I posted above… my cat was missing for 2 weeks until I finally found her. She was too scared to respond to my calls and I realized she was not coming back on her own, so I knew I had to go out and physically look for her. I wasted most of those days looking around my neighborhood instead of MY OWN YARD!!! The way I found her was with a flashlight at night. She had been hiding under my shed the entire time. I looked under that shed TWICE during the daytime and could not see her. The third time I looked was at night with a flashlight and there were her eyes glowing back at me! Faith is really scared and has found a good hiding spot very close to where she escaped. She is so close… she’s probably watching you, but is too scared to come out or respond to your calls.

Karen Elizabeth thank you, Karen. Out here now again looking. Do you think that the instinct for her would be to dart into nearby brush which is very think and lots of it, or stay in the yard to hide?

If Faith is normally an INSIDE cat... then she is definitely scared and hiding and you will need to go out at NIGHT with a flashlight and look for her “glowing” eyes. She is VERY CLOSE to your house… most likely in YOUR OWN YARD. They usually find a hiding spot very quickly and very close to where they escaped. Look up in the trees and CHECK UNDER EVERYTHING in YOUR YARD first… under decks, under sheds, inside bushes, wood piles and storm drains. Then check your neighbors yards. They are very good at hiding. THE BEST TIME TO FIND HER IS AT NIGHT WITH A FLASHLIGHT AND HER EYES WILL “GLOW” BACK AT YOU. Faith is so scared, she will NOT respond to you calling her, so you'll have to use your eyes instead of your ears to find her. When cats are suddenly outside, they go into "survival mode" and their entire personality changes. They will NOT wander. They find a hiding spot very close by and are very scared and will not come out for anyone... even their owners. I hope you find your fur-baby very soon!

Mary Greathouse it really depends on just how frightened she is and how hungry she gets - some can come out of hiding fairly quickly, within 1-2 days, while others can be too frightened and stay hidden for several more days. You’re doing all the right things, though. I know you’re worried and stressed- try to think positively and take some deep breaths.

Melinda Leeah Lee trap is set. We’ve been out all day and night. Have taken the advice on sitting and or standing quietly and reading as well. Thank you

Mary Greathouse they usually go to the nearest/quickest hiding spot. Sit outside later tonight when it’s quiet and talk softly as if you are on the phone or read a book, etc. She may come out if it’s calm. I would set a trap quickly, too.
