Message from Owner

We just moved here with Maverick two weeks ago from Columbia, MO. He was our stray cat there and was inside here for two weeks and he escaped and we haven’t seen him since Saturday. He’s fat and has a clipped ear from TNR I assume. He’s around 4 but since he’s a stray we really don’t know. I had an appointment to get him microchipped so he is not currently chipped. He is so sweet and does like people once he trusts them.

awwww, such a sweet story. He is for sure outside. He came back about 20 minutes later and let me pet him for one second but not long enough to grab him, then he hid under our deck for a short time and then left again.

Lost Cat tips Please do the following things. Put all of these items OUTSIDE: 1. His or her litter box (used/dirty). 2. Wet, smelly canned cat food or tuna or sardines and also water. 3. A piece of your "worn" clothing with your scent. 4. Your kitty's bed or blanket with their scent. Probably hasn’t gone far and may come around at night. If your kitty is normally an INSIDE cat, then he/she is likely VERY CLOSE to your home. Indoor cats usually find a hiding spot very close by. Check under yours and your neighbors decks, bushes, wood piles and sheds. The BEST time to find them is at night with a flashlight and their eyes will "glow" back at you. Your kitty is so scared, he/she might not respond to you calling them, so you'll have to use your eyes instead of your ears to find them. 5. If he/she is microchipped, call the microchip company and make sure your contact information is correct 6. Hang lost cat signs with REWARD clearly written on them. Also hand them out to all your neighbors. 7. Call your local police and report him/her as missing 8. Post in the Lost and Found section and Pets section in Craigslist. 9. Check www.petharbor.com. This website provides found cats that are currently at Animal Control, the Humane Society and the APA. The website updates throughout the day so check back often. ALSO, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO SEARCH EVERY SHELTER AVAILABLE IN THE LIST BY DATE, DO NOT SEARCH BY BREED OR SHELTER. Be sure to check the FOUND BY PUBLIC section as well. 10. Share in your www.nextdoor.com group. 11. Visit your local shelters in plerson, do not call and ask if your cat is there. The people who work there makes mistakes all the time. They even make mistakes on the and miss the micro-chip, so be sure to check the shelter in person 12. Share on your local buy sell trade Facebook pages 13. Tell your local mail in carrier to watch out for him/her 14. If you have a garage, leave your garage door open a little or put out a box or plastic tote with blankets for shelter in case he/she comes back at night

Try cracking your garage door so that he can get back in. Put a small amount of food inside and monitor if it gets eaten. Look under and around everything cars, shrubs, decks, window wells and look around street drains. Put something with his scent out on your porch and in the garage. Keep food out so he doesn't wander farther looking for a meal. Go out at night and early morning, with a flashlight and look for his glowing eyes. Notify your neighbors & post flyers with his picture and your contact information. Post on nextdoor.com and pawboost.com

A beautiful cat, and sure hope you find him. But, unless you saw him go outside, check inside, easily closed inside a room, pantry, closet, basement , even in a drawer left open. I've experienced it all. They can find the best hiding places. And since this is a new place, he could be hiding. When I moved here, one cat hid for 7 days...I called my vet from where I moved...he said, no worry, they can live 7days & nights without food or water. Well....the 7th night, I felt something move on my bed. It was him...deciding it was OK and safe to come out from his hiding place, which we later found was between the chosen basement joists, accessed by jumping up on the water heater and then on up. Who would think??? Anyhow, a few months back, he was diagnosed with Hyper -Thyroid and Kidney disease. I've babied him along, hoping; however, this disease does not relent. He finally reached the point he had no quality of life left, and I (with tears) made a Blue Pearl visit and he crossed the Rainbow bridge as I held him. Since he was feral when I trapped him, our and vet's best guess is that he was 15 years old. I picked up his ashes today so, in essence, he is back home. It is so difficult for those of us who are more emotional; however I still have my 21 year old Tortie, plus my dog. So memories of the 'no longer' linger.
