Ashley Holman, he's likely hunkered down close to home too scared to return, so please don't fear the worst. You say you're leaving the garage cracked open -- is that where KB got out? Please understand when it's dark and still, he should attempt to retrace his steps to his point of escape, so if it's not the garage, you'll have to set things up where he got out. Also, when you leave something outside, make sure it's inconuous -- KB won't approach if objects or obstacles have erupted in his path, no matter how familiar they may be. This is what I suggest: DURING THE DAYTIME, alert nearby neighbors in case KB is hiding just beyond your property (under a vehicle, in a garage, shed, or carport, etc.), then, if there’s time before dark and you can search without dislodging him from his hiding spot, focus your efforts close to home and tiptoe around using a flashlight, but be discreet so as not to frighten him (although he's deaf, he can sense someone approaching, so don't make any sudden moves), check every crack and crevice, look in, under and around sheds, vehicles, furniture, under foundations and porches, into trees etc. but suspend searching when it gets dark to give him the chance to return voluntarily. Again, AT DUSK lay an inconuous but familiar blanket, unwashed pillowcase or article of clothing on the doorstep where he got out to give KB the confidence to come out of hiding, and place a bowl of food in front of the door. Now, if he escaped via the garage and you can't see into it to know when he's entered, you may need to leave the door to the house cracked open also in which case do not leave food in the garage or elsewhere -- make sure it's well inside the home or in the regular spot. Make sure the automatic opener, if you have one, is set to close with the next button press because you'll have to close the door behind him when he's well enough inside so he doesn't get scared and run back out. If he escaped from another door you need not leave it open, simply watch and listen closely from inside (DO NOT GO BACK OUT AFTER DARK!) and if you see KB approach and settle on the food be very careful not to startle him as you slowly and quietly provide a clear path back inside. As I said, if you can't wait up set an alarm and watch again just before sunrise -- it's a popular time to return. Please let me know what happens tonight and if he's not back by morning, I'll provide more detailed instructions. I'm hopeful for some good news.

Diana Ellis he got out accidentally and he is deaf. He has been gone since 6/10/26. He has never been an outside cat. I'm so scared he is gone and I'll never get him back and I miss him so very much 😔 I laid out his favorite bed with a couple clothes from me and my kids that were dirty. We have been leaving food out and been keeping garage cracked open every night. We have also posted lots of posters up in our neighborhood.

Ashley Holman, KB is a beautiful brown tabby cat — I’m sorry he is lost. Is KB an escaped indoor cat or allowed outside? His familiarity with the environment will dictate how to find him. Escaped indoor cats usually hide close by but are too frightened to return or respond when called (even when they can hear); while a cat that knows his way around may have become stuck somewhere and needs help getting home. I have recovered many lost cats and assisted others so if you tell me about KB I can provide complete instructions that may help. Please understand an escaped cat may emerge when it's dark and quiet to sneak back inside — if you do just the right things. This usually happens within the first few nights so until I hear back from you please implement this strategy if KB got out accidentally: tonight lay a familiar blanket or worn teeshirt flat on the doorstep where he got out — do not use a litter box, bed, trap, or anything conuous -- along with a bowl of food (to calm him and hold his attention so you can open the door without scaring him away), then watch from inside (DO NOT GO BACK OUTDOORS OVERNIGHT!) and if you see KB approach and settle on the food be careful not to startle him. Slowly and quietly provide a clear path inside and he may put an end to the crisis himself. If you can't wait up set an alarm and watch again just before sunrise -- it's a popular time. And although some will suggest putting out kitty's litter box, experts say DON’T DO IT. I've never used one in all the times I've been successful recovering a lost cat. Put smelly wet food outside, hav a hart traps work, check them often. At night shine a flashlight you may catch reflection of his eyes. Check shed, garages, under cars, anyplace he could hide or be stuck. Put up flyers, especially at vet offices. Talk to neighbors, ask if they have security cameras that may catch him walking by. They tend to move early morning and evenings. Put out used litter and fav humans worn clothes, familiar smells help bring them in. If possible, leave a patio or garage door open so he can get in. Contact rescues & county shelters, take a pic. Physically check county shelter often, they are busy. She will be very scared & may go into survival mode, she may not respond to you. Some wait until they're starving to come out for food. Keep food/trap out & check often. If you have another cat, try putting them outside in a SECURE carrier. Their meows may call the lost one in. Pray. Don't give up!

The best time to look for a cat is late at night after the daytime sounds settle down. Go for a walk and take a flashlite scan into the trees and under bushes. A cat can fit in any hole that they can fit their head thru they have collapsible shoulder blades. Most indoor cats stay close to home but come out at night. Most important is to make your presence known. Go out every half hour after 9pm and call for them and stop and listen it's amazing what you can hear late at night. Get your voice and scent out there. They are looking for you also. Look for glowing eyes at night. If there is a dog sibling that the cat likes take the dog on the walk. If you open canned cat food or shake treats do so on your walk. If the cat has a noisy toy shake it on your walk. Make posters and put in every business within a mile of the home. Let your mail carrier know. If there are teenagers in the neighborhood let them know they love reward money and being a hero. Check all local shelters. Let local veterinarians know your info. If there is a feral colony near you check it out. If you can find the feeder of the colony give them your info. Make large signs and put in neighbors yards at least a mile radius of the home. This ensures that everyone in the area has the info. Put post it notes on your neighbors doors to look in sheds and garages. Post on every Facebook forum in your area. Post on Pawboost and For the love of Louie. Check Humane Society. So important to make your presence known every half hour after 9pm. Make a bed out of the cats carrier and put soiled clothes from inside the home around the bed. Put it as close to the house as you can. Leave a shed or garage open check them often. Camp in your yard. Most indoor cats are found late at night. Don't give up. Do not put food out or litter it attracts every animal in the area including raccoon opossum feral cats and coyotes. Your cat will know that there is food inside and that is incentive to keep them close to the house. If you are outside that's OK but take it in when you go back in. If your cat sees a predator eating their food it might make them retreat further. Most important is to let them know you are looking for them. Hope you find your baby
