Message from Finder

Cat appeared on the back porch meowing at the door, would not go home after many hours despite the late time of night (1 am or later) and the cold. She appeared afraid and distressed and was preparing to sleep outside on the porch. On closer inspection she was covered in painful thistle burrs and was ripping out her own fur. She also had no tags. Fearing that she may be lost and need medical attention, we left the door open and she entered. In the morning, we checked her for a microchip but she didn’t have one. For the time being we’re capable of caring for her until she’s claimed.

Update: We're still trying to find this cat's family. So far, it's been more than a week, but no lost cat listings seem to have been made on any of the largest sites or groups. We've checked through all of the lost cats from the past few months and none match her appearance or description. We're now checking with local vets to see if any may recognize her. We've also started checking more distant street corners and alleys for lost pet posters. Something we've noticed is that she doesn't behave like an indoor-outdoor cat and never asks to go outside, so she could be an indoor only cat that accidentally escaped. The only additional information we have on her came from a neighbor who spotted her outside a few days before we allowed her in, the neighbor had also been concerned that she was lost. Due to the distance of the neighbor's sighting and the condition we found the cat in, we believe kitty may have been roaming, sleeping outside and crossing busy streets for a little while. She remains well cared for and is comfortable, and we'll continue to keep her safe during her stay with us.
