I forgot to include this: do NOT put his litter box/scent outside. Instead, put out your very well worn clothing/bedding out, get into the breeze. Change out daily, so the scent stays very pungent. Cats can detect your scent just as well as their own. Predators are attracted by cat urine/feces. Hunters use it to lure them in. Predators are not concerned with humans/scents. They are concerned with the scent of animals. they may lie in wait, preventing Mason from returning.

Janet Reddington I'm so sorry Mason is missing. He's beautiful. If you haven't already, please do these things immediately: notify chip company he's missing, make sure your contact info is UTD. You can update it now. Turn in LOST CAT REPORTS (with pics and chip info) to all: police, animal control, vets, emergency hospitals, shelters/humanes, rescues, groomers, sitters/boarders. I believe you can do most, if not all, online. Please research LOST CAT BEHAVIOR. So important to think like him now. Cats in survival mode often act differently than usual. Please contact Damia Koti (650) 339-6619, www.happycatlady.com. She is a cat recovery expert in California. She helps people from all over, works for free, and can help you plan a customized search. Please post (and search Found posts) on at least these sites: Pawboost, Petcolovelost, Pawmaw, lostmykitty, Petfbi, all lost/found sites, and all social media. Use old school methods too, as some people don't have FB or even internet. Some people may not know to take a found animal to be scanned for a chip. Have you spoken with your neighbors? Could he have a second home, a friendly face/place? Make up tons of posters and flyers. Laminate posters. On some, attach to posts so you can drive them into the ground. Put them in your yard, your driveway, and by your mailbox. Ask neighbors and businesses to do the same. It's important that people know where he belongs, and how to contact you. Posters up all over neighborhood. Check on them daily, as the weather can damage them, and people will take them down. Flyers, hand out w/ conversation, to all: neighbors, postal/paper carriers, dog walkers, joggers, landscapers, taxi/bus/school bus/Uber/Lyft drivers, all delivery drivers (Amazon, UPS, Door Dash, grocery delivery...). Kids and teens often notice animals when adults do not. Get them involved. All persons who are outside in your neighborhood, who have a route/ine. Do you have surveillance? Check yours. Ask neighbors and businesses to do the same. Would a Live Humane Trap or Trail Cameras help? Could he have hitched a ride? Maybe a delivery truck or someone moving in/out nearby? They may have no idea they picked up a passenger. Any construction sites nearby? Cats are famously curious, and get into places where they get locked in or somehow trapped. He could be injured also. Please ask neighbors to review theirs, and ask them if they have they recently opened up a garage, storage building, or some other space he could have gotten locked in? Have you checked, and rechecked inside and outside? Any vehicles, trailers, boats he could take shelter in/under/atop/behind? Inside, Under, Atop, Behind. Appliances, heating/AC systems, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, closets, cubbies, under stairs, under decks/porches, under houses. Hampers, dresser drawers, under/inside bedding? Bats/cellars and attics. Cats can squeeze themselves into tiny little spaces, like a spider or a bat. Then they cannot get back out. Please actively search for him. If he normally comes back on his own, and has not, he may not be able to. Where would he find water, shelter, food, and possibly companionship? Are you near any waterways, dumpsters, restaurants, feral feeding stations? I really hope you and your boy are reunited, safely and soundly, very soon~

These are general search tips and not all may apply in your situation. Search at night w/ a flashlight (eyes will glow). Check up in trees and inside/under things in your yard and up to 4 - 5 houses away. Search garages, sheds, under decks and bushes, in crawl spaces, behind AC units - any place the cat might be trapped or hiding. Many cats go into hiding mode for safety and won't come when they hear their owner's voice but try calling and try either shaking a can/bag of treats or carrying an open (smelly) can of cat food or fish. Put something w/ the cat's scent on the porch (cat bed, scratching post, sofa pillows). Keep your garage door up enough to allow entry. Keep fresh bowls of water out. Put up large missing cat posters (neon poster board works well), talk to neighbors (leave info for those not home), post on all local social media groups and make sure to check with local animal control at least once a week (better to go in person but at least call and send them a photo). If not found at night with a flashlight, go out during early morning, before dawn, as many cats are active around that time. If not found in a few days, you can always buy a humane cat trap but traps *must* be checked multiple times each day, every day. If the cat is microchipped, please make sure the chip company has your updated contact information. And even if the cat has a chip, you still need to check with animal control as chips sometimes are overlooked or migrate down.

General Information: Set up a scent station. Hang clothes with your scent on it (Worn clothing from owner) high up outside so the familiar scent can travel and guide the cat back home. Ask your neighbors to check their yard/could be accidently stuck in their garage or shed. (If applicable) Check doorbell or home camera - or ask neighbors to check their camera. Post Fliers with a picture of the cat and your contact information in the area the cat went missing. Not everyone is on Social Media and posters have worked in that if spotted a location can be provided. If a cat is scared they make themselves safe by finding a good hiding spot and often times hide in silence. Look in bushes - bring a flashlight and look for shining eyes. Best time to find your cat is in the early morning hours when the noise level is low and they feel safe. Leave an access point open for the cat to return. This is important if they do come back in the middle of the night. Prayers your cat returns/ or is found safely. Beware of scammers.
