She is 13 and never leaves our yard, but last night she went out and never came back. We checked the whole street and the next one over and haven’t seen her. She is really friendly and nice.

Cat rescue We purchased a heat detecting monocle and went out at night. You can see cats easily. When you see a cat, use a good flashlight to see if it is your cat. If neighbors want to help, you need to walk around your yard and any vacant areas near your home. Make sure you have not accidentally closed this cat in your storage area etc. Also look under any vehicles/ boats etc you keep parked on your property. If you feed feral cats lost cats may visit you. If you know where someone feeds feral or a colony of cats, please post here so the owner can look in that area. If you are out walking after dark, stay quiet, carry a good flashlight with you. Don’t try to catch him. If he is seen note location and details then share with owners. Animals that are pets and used to being inside, go into a survival mode that makes their brain focused on survival only and they will even run from beloved owners. Catching lost animals is a whole different ballgame and needs to be ‘planned’ If you see a lost pet, be quiet and make yourself small, get down on the ground and let the animal come to you. If you know you are looking, bring smelly food and put it out where it is seen. If it comes up to you. go slow, go low. be very patient. don’t grab. Also bring a towel to sit on or maybe use to hold pet if it allows you to pick it up. The main goal for helpers is to find and record sightings. Don’t try forcing a catch you could scare the cat away.I am Rainy’s Mama and I have learned all of this from Brandi Lee Bradley.
