Check with area shelters daily and go there in person too. Make sure microchip information is up to date.

The "Path of Least Resistance": Chihuahuas will avoid difficult terrain. When seeking water or food, they often travel along residential roads, sidewalks, or railroad tracks. Instead of wandering openly near large bodies of water, they are far more likely to hunker down in tight, hidden spaces during the day. Check under porches, inside sheds, beneath thick brush, or under parked cars. Don't Chase or Call Out: When in survival mode, a dog may not recognize its owner's voice or face and will run away from you. Set up a Station: Leave a bowl of water, a crate, and a piece of your worn clothing (like a t-shirt or pillowcase) near the area they were last seen. Your scent will comfort them and encourage them to stay put. Search at Dawn and Dusk: Lost dogs tend to hide silently during the day and move to find food and water when it is quiet and dark.

Post on NextDoor and on For the Love of Louie and on the 24petconnect website and on the petcolovelost website. Check with Detroit Animal Care and Control daily IN PERSON and check with the Humane Society and the Michigan Anti Cruelty Society. Check rescue pages like Detroit Dog Rescue and Detroit Pit Crew and Rebel Dogs Detroit. Put up flyers in your neighborhood

THINGS TO DO WHEN YOUR DOG GOES MISSING •Get hot, smelly food/water out ASAP. Do you have a Ring doorbell or security camera you can position in front of the food, so you can see if he/she comes to eat it? •Put out some of your dirty laundry, such as a pillowcase or sweaty clothes. •Post on Nextdoor, neighborhood/subdivision pages, ring app, and ask neighbors to check security camera footage for sightings and to call you. * Post on pawboost online and For the Love of Louie *Michigan Lost Pet Lookers* •Check your entire property for places he/she could be hiding. Go door to door and ask neighbors to do the same. •Let police and animal Control/Shelter know he/she's missing. Go to the shelter in person every day or every other day at a minimum. •Get neon posterboard up on all intersections within two miles. Write with black marker: LOST DOG DO NOT CHASE BREED/COLOR PHONE NUMBER •Get neon colored flyers with same info above and include photo and flood the area with them (homes, businesses). They're critical in getting a lost pet back!! •Do not go to where seen and call out for him/her as that could scare him/her and push him/her out of the area or into danger! You want him/her to settle down and stay in one area so he/she can be trapped, if necessary. Instead take some stinky food and place in a safe place, if you have a camera to put in front the food - to see if he/she comes to eat it. ** If you (THE OWNER) see your dog, do not call out to them dog or make eye contact- Sit on the ground or drop to the ground and play dead. Always have some stinky food with you, to help lure them to you. Do not say anything or make quick moves. Your dog needs to see you, hear you, and smell you - before he/she can process who you are and come to you!!! Once they approach, quietly say a phrase they would be familiar with.
