Thank you SO VERY MUCH for keeping this pet safe and ensuring that anyone who claims to be the owner IS in fact the rightful owner. Be careful…. The owner will be able to tell YOU the pet’s name, gender, color of collar and any identifying marks / characteristics. You shouldn’t post online (Facebook) any of the above info about the pet you found. And don’t share it with the possible owner. Let the owner of a missing pet give you the info about their pet. Request photos of their missing dog. See if the pet responds to the pet’s name the person gives you. See if the pet you found matches the description / characteristics they provide. The owner will also have vet records to share. Also please contact the local animal shelter and report this pet as found. Pet’s family should call there or go there looking for their fur baby. You should be able to foster the pet at your home, so that the pet doesn’t have to stay at the shelter. However, the shelter be aware that you found him/her. I also recommend putting a simple Found Cat or Found Dog in your yard and at your mailbox in case pet’s owners drive around looking for him or her. Also lets your mailman, neighbors and other delivery people know about the pet. They may hear of a missing pet and now will know you found one. And, it can be a good idea to walk the dog on leash around the neighbor to see if the dog leads you to their home and to see if anyone recognizes the pooch.

If the owner is found, please verify with their veterinarian that they are in fact the pet owner. I recommend reaching out to local rescues such as Peggy Adams, Ufar, Good Karma, etc. for assistance. Thank you for protecting this sweet dog. ❤️🐶
