Drag scent trailsโ€ฆ He may be hiding under a porch, a shed, or a car, behind bushes, or in a wooded area. Go out late at night with a flashlight that might reflect against his eyes, and call him gently. Or shake a bag of treats, sometimes better than your voice to attract a cat thatโ€™s scared. Create scent trails on the grass and ground leading up to your home (or to a trap, ideally monitored with a trail cam, so you can respond quickly when the cat is in the trap). Get a towel and rub it with your dirty laundry, blankets, socks, or anything else with the scent of home. (Do not use kitty litter.) Tie a rope to the towel and drag it from the areas where you think the cat might be, creating scent trails leading to your house (or the trap). You wonโ€™t smell the scent on the towel or the ground, but the cat will. (If you use a trap, load it with a little cat food, chicken or tuna, enough to attract the cat from the trail that leads up to it. Rely on the scent trails to get your cat to the trap.) Rain and snow will wash away the scent trails, so youโ€™ll have to drag again afterwards. Also, renew the trails every couple days. Try to remain patient and hopeful. Some cats only show up after many days or even weeks. Important: . Never leave a trap unattended, always keep an eye on it, checking it every 1/2 hour in person or with a trail cam. Position the trap close to where the cat escaped or was last seen. . Trail cam photos and videos are marked with time stamps, helpful to know if and when the cat shows up but doesnโ€™t go into the trap. . Post flyers in the area with a picture of your cat and your contact information. . Even if you donโ€™t have a trap or a trail cam, scent trails leading to your home can work.

Tips for finding your cat. Please try doing these things, ESPECIALLY walking around in late evening and/or early morning and calmly calling him, then stopping periodically to listen for him reply/meow. Not just once, EVERY DAY. Go out at dusk & walk around & calmly call him. Cats can become fearful outdoors, even of their owners. This is how I helped my friend find her missing cat. If he gets treats, take a box & shake it gently. Walk, call, then stop & listen to see if you hear him meow. Cover the same area, over & over. (I read they usually don't go more than 500 feet from home.) Take a flashlight & shine it under every nearby car, bush, etc. looking for eyes reflecting. Put blankets or clothing with your scent on your porch or patio. Ask neighbors to make sure he didn't get shut inside a shed, garage, etc. Put posters w/ his photo & your number at every nearby stop sign & red-light & give 1 to your mail carrier. Give his photo & your number to any regular walkers or joggers. This is how my friend's cat was found, a jogger saw him. If none of this works see if someone can loan you a small humane trap & set it up w/ food & check it often. Praying he makes it back home soon! ๐Ÿ™ This takes some time, effort & a little money but it's totally worth it. โค๏ธ
