These are the tips we use in lost pet rescue in the Wake County, NC area. Please follow ALL tips asap and don't give up! Be consistent in your efforts as it may take awhile to find your furbaby. WHERE TO POST IF YOU LIVE IN THE WAKE COUNTY AREA: Please post on these FB pages: Wake County Pet Network, Lost and Found Pets of the Triangle NC, Pawboost. Nextdoor and Ring Neighbors. Also contact the Wake County Animal Center (be sure to look at their found dog pages every day!). Post also on Nextdoor and Ring Neighbors. FOOD: Fire up your grill (portable propane grills from Walmart work great) and cook BACON, chicken, hot dogs, - the smell of food on the grill can help bring the doggie closer to home/to where lost from/or last place seen. Cook on the grill several times a day. Spread bacon grease on rags and put in tree branches (up as high as you can reach) leading to the point of escape. Dogs really love bacon, vienna sausage, rotisserie chicken, especially KFC chicken. They can smell chicken cooking from several miles away. FOOD STATION: Leave a bowl of water and a bowl with some bacon, deboned rotisserie chicken, favorite wet dog food, vienna sausage in a bowl (the food and water is referred to as a food station) at the point of escape. https://lostdogsofamerica.org/luring-a-shy-lost-dog-using-a-portable-grill/ CAMERAS: Place a trail camera/cameras facing the food station so you can tell what is eating the food at the food station. CROCK POT: Put fatty meat in a crock pot and cook outside on porch/patio. You can also crack your garage door or back door and lure them with the crock pot cooking. LIQUID SMOKE: Buy liquid smoke from the grocery store/Walmart and mix with water in a spray bottle. Set the spray setting to "stream" and thoroughly spray the upper branches of trees and bushes close to where your doggie escaped from and leading to any food station. The wind will carry the scent. Spray in a wagon wheel pattern every 2 days. SCENT ITEMS: Put your (the owner's) unlaundered items such as socks, shirts, pillowcases in the upper branches of bushes and trees close to the point of escape/where last seen. Also, put a dirty scent item next to the food station. Your scent (the owner's scent) can help lure the doggie closer to home. A dog's sense of smell is incredible. COMPANION DOG: When walking around searching during the day, you may want to take your companion dog on a leash to help lure him/her. *** SENIOR DOGS: Older dogs tend to seek water sources (ponds, lakes, creeks), walk downhill (and can't walk back uphill), get stuck in ravines/ditches/underbrush, and walk along fence lines. Walk down any hills, ravines, and embankments to ensure your dog has not fallen or walked down and is unable to get back up. Thoroughly check all of these areas. YOUR DOG'S SCENT ITEMS, PET TRACKER: In case you may need to contact a pet tracker to help search, take any items that have the doggie's scent (dog's fur under beds, toys, etc.) and place in separate zip lock bags and put into the freezer. BALYNDA BROWN lives in Raleigh and has a tracking dog, Bravo, who is excellent. She is on Facebook. Please call and text her asap for a game plan 919-418-7953. She can also consult with you at no charge. Access the link below to complete info about your lost pet so Balynda will have background info. https://www.facebook.com/k9bravo/ ERIN EATON is also a wonderful resource! https://www.facebook.com/k9soncall?mibextid=kFJD DO NOT CHASE! These tips in the video link below are extremely helpful. When dogs are lost, they go into panic/survival mode and many times don't even recognize their owners. Calming Signals Panicked Dogs - YouTube https://youtu.be/cmiZzB643is https://fb.watch/owHbMBYz8a/?mibextid=2JQ9oc SIGNS: Not everyone uses social media. Signs are extremely important to get the word out. FACEBOOK COMMUNITY PAGE: Consider setting up a FB Community page for your furbaby. You can specify certain zip codes to which you can run ads. FB users in those zip codes will see the ads. The ads don't cost very much. FOR MICROCHIPPED DOGS: Please contact the microchip company and make sure your contact info is current and report your pet as missing.

Now if not a displaced dog ran from foster home or home… and is familiar with the home… Little dog don’t run far… check neighbors out foot cameras for clues Get a flashlight go for a walk, look under bushes, ravines under sheds porches ( ask neighbors permission to search in their yards.) Hire a tracker as a doxie she is at high risk of any predator…and very easily picked up. Hire trackers… it’s cold some require a donation. Start grilling asap any smelly meet, you can also use a crock pot too. Hang your sweaty socks, sheets you slept in last night.. The wind will care your scent and the aroma of smelly meat… helping your dog find home Do the scent trail up above( diagram up above black and orange bottom right )… go out far in all direction @ 6-8 houses in all directions to help him find home Cut up your sweaty tshirts into strips 1/2inch wide x 8 inches tie on branches.. telephone poles, street signs, fences Go in every direction like a clock… It’s worked in the past, place the strips 50-100 feet between one another. Encompass total 12-16 houses diameter total… He’ll follow the scent home… at least that’s the plan/hope It’s worked before… The wind will carry the scent..help him find home Make color posters, see post. And use water proof markers bright colors…cover with large freezer baggies to avoid getting wet. Make a copy of this post and place it in the posters…in your yard Affix to corner of street, tape to street poles… And outside your car Add your telephone number… Check neighbors outdoor cameras for clues Make color paper copies of this post with your cell number and handout to USPS USP FEDX DRIVERS, Police go to shelter look for your dog’s with your eyes… the shelters are full and busy. Leave a copy, and go every day Bring to local Animal Control make a report…incase they are called by a finder. Update if your dog has a chip and is your address/cell phone number up to date, if not CALL your VET or company of chip now.. Post his pic on Neighbor PawBoost, FaceBook, local newspapers and any other sites you know( post in newspaper not everyone is tech savvy) Sadly, check Facebook Marketplace, Craig’s List, and any Neighbor site under For Sale. ( People sell found dogs for money.) Trackers are helpful… Don’t know them personally only hear of their successes.. Here a list see post A Pet Angel Fund volunteer Keep you posts up to date so the public can help SharingšŸ™šŸ»

Was she lost away from her foster home? That’s a ā€œdisplaced dog.ā€ Your dog is lost but a ā€œDisplaced Lost Dog.ā€ Your dog is still near where jumped out of a car, or broke loose from a leash and ran off… hiding laying low… go back there now Bring your sweaty clothes/her blanket she will stay near Go there with a bright flashlight typically displaced dogs venture out at early morning/dawn and dusk Bring your dog’s favorite treat in small bag When you see your dog don’t yell,be calm, if it doesn’t come to you right away, crouch down make yummy sounds and toss a few treats its way Make color copies of this post and add your cell. Handout to that area FEDX USPS USP DRIVERS SND POLICE. Call Animal Control and update, bring a handout. Go to local Shelter search for him in person…give a handout go every day… The shelters are very busy go in person. CHECK, FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE Craig’s list and any neighbor site under FOR SALE. Sadly people sell.. Most important your dog has a leash attached it can get caught on brush, branches and not allow your dog to run or hide, not run/hide safe from predators…coyotes, unscrupulous people and cover self in this cold.. PLEASE ACT FAST AND CALL DOG Rescuers Don’t know them personally only know their successes in finding dogs Keep the post updated… šŸ™šŸ» Sharing A Pet Angel Fund volunteer
