The only way a lost cat can find its way home is with its nose. They have to use their sense of smell to get home again. Put anything outside that smells like their territory. Put the pajamas you slept in outside because you probably sweated in them. Put out their food your stinky socks your smelly sneakers anything you can think of that the cat will recognize by smell. Cats usually stay within a five house radius of their own home for up to a week or so sleeping in the bushes during the day and coming out at dusk and dawn. Those are good times to take a walk shaking the treat bag calling out but cats also tend to come out and walk around very late at night. Try to keep a door cracked if you can whether it's the garage or whatever or a window cracked so you can hear them if they call out for you. Put this on all of the neighborhood pages as well as lost and found pets sites. Knock on the neighbors doors and make sure they know you're looking for your cat. Good luck PS cats can smell up to one mile away from their own house. Absolutely no litterbox outside or food. It attracts predators is why. Never give up.

Cat territory is about 5 houses in each direction so ask your neighbors to check their outbuildings

Cats tend to return to the point of exit in the overnight hours within the first 24-72 hours, sometimes longer. Be looking for her at these times. A trail cam or Blink cam is helpful placed at the exit point to notify you if she returns overnight.

Here are some tips I like to share…They are usually closer than you think, scared/hiding (unless not fixed). It can be over a week before they venture out for food. *Don’t rely on neighbors seeing your missing kitty posts. Post photos and signs around the neighborhood, give one to postman. Check with neighbors, look in garages, sheds, window wells, drain pipes, and behind air conditioners in person within a 5 house radius.* I SWEAR BY LIVE TRAP’S, Have a trap ready near point of exit, they work but must be monitored often (camera). Lay items with your and their scent over the top, scatter grass clippings over wire bottom and bait with favorite stinky food. Talk to all neighbors and physically check yourself all surrounding sheds, garages, under bushes, and decks. Check and post on Nextdoor, Ring, PawBoost, PETFBI, Petco Love Lost, Lost and found pets Minnesota. If they come back, chip and clip if not already done. 🐱
