Message from Finder

Hi! I found him stuck in our gate this morning. I just want to find his home. We unfortunately can’t keep him. We have dogs and they are not happy sharing.

This is a Sonoran desert tortoise. it is a native protected species in Arizona they do not have an existing wild population in the area located and this is certainly has a caretaker that it has escaped from. Arizona Game and Fish has a robust adoption program for the species. Please post on www.nextdoor .com Post on the pet section on the Ring "Neighbors" app ( you dont need to own a ring product.) www.ring.com/neighbors. post to Arizona Tortoise Lost and Found And Arizona Tortoise Keepers And if an owner cannot be located it must be returned to Arizona Game and Fish so that it can be properly and legally adopted out. contact AZ game and Fish directly at AZGFD Tortoise Hotline 844 896 5730 (general information) For Found tortoises (480) 694-8395 (text pictures and context/clear location) One of the most effective tools to find the owner is to place Flyers throughout the community where it was found. Make sure anybody claiming the tortoise can prove ownership with pictures that you can compare. Their shells are like fingerprints no two are alike they must match. Get fires posted around the community where the tortoise was found they are very effective.

Desert tortoise fish and game might be able to help. If you do not end up finding its home I would gladly take it. We have a giant outdoor custom enclosure with 2 already and we were about to contact them to get another one.
