This post is a bit confusing, so it was interstate 90 near mile marker 306. Would make it town of mentz, near Port Byron. Does anyone know if they were traveling east or west?

Shelly OConnor Yes, it was on the Thruway. In the Town of Mentz, also known as Port Byron.
