Message from Owner

I had a former neighbor babysit my cat while I was moving, grieving the sudden loss of my mother, coping with postpartum depression, and waiting for his official Emotional Support Animal (ESA) documentation to arrive. When I reached out to get my cat back, my former neighbor waited almost 24 hours to tell me that my cat had past and that he had already buried him. However, when I spoke with another former neighbor, she told me that he had actually informed her of my cat's passing over a month ago. He now claims he "forgot" where he buried him and refuses to give me any details about the location. I got the Animal Welfare League involved, but they were only able to conduct a welfare check. During that check, they confirmed my cat was not inside the apmt unit. The officers noted that speaking with my former neighbor was difficult because both he and a friend inside the apmt appeared extremely nervous.  I am devastated, and my ultimate goal is simply to bring my cat home—whether he is still alive or I am retrieving his remains. I want to press charges or have a detective investigate further, but because pets are legally classified as property, I am being told it is a civil issue.

Melissa Druitt Or maybe he sold the cat. Sorry I'm so cynical but life can do that to a person.

The person watching him says he passed away. And didn’t tell her right away. “Forgot” where he buried him. This is horrible. She wants him back, no matter what. 💔
