INDOOR CATS ONLY The MOST EFFECTIVE THING TO DO when your indoor only cat escapes …… give him/her the ability to get back in the way that they left. Prop open the door the cat escaped from. Use a door stop so the door doesn’t sway and scare your cat when s/he is approaching. SPECIFICALLY in the overnight hours. Go to sleep. Do not linger by the door with anticipation. Be “normal”. Your cat will know if you’re anxious and will feed off of your energy. If you do happen to get a glimpse of your cat attempting to enter back home, ignore your cat. Do not scream with excitement. Your cat may run back outside. Make it easy for your cat to get back home. Give your cat the ability to be a cat and get back in on his or her terms. 9 out of 10 people who call me looking for their missing indoor only cat never end up needing to hire me if they follow these tips. Please remember, when an indoor only cat goes missing, you are dealing with a terrified, displaced animal, not a human. They are very different from us. They are far more capable than us humans. Give them a chance. Have faith and confidence in their natural survival instincts. When one of my cats was missing, I made a flyer and asked people in the neighborhood to look in their garage. Sure enough, our neighbors across our circle had Moby in theirs

He will come home. Just give him a little while. One of my cats disappeared for about two weeks and then showed up out of nowhere. Another one left for about six weeks because somebody was staying with me. As soon as that person left, the cat came back.
