If your cat is an indoor cat, it will be scared and won’t come when called. Try placing their used litter outside. At night, use a flashlight to check under your and your neighbors' bushes and decks for the reflection of your cat's eyes. Additionally, consider setting up a humane trap as soon as possible, as it's one of the most effective methods for finding lost cats. You can bait the trap with strong-smelling sardines. These traps can be purchased at local hardware stores or borrowed from animal shelters. While this approach might seem drastic, remember that lost pets often enter survival mode and behave differently. Be sure to research how to use a humane trap effectively. Make sure to visit local animal shelters in person and look for your missing kitty, and post flyers within a one-mile radius of where your kitty went missing. There are also many valuable resources available online if you search for "how to find your missing cat." Important Note: Be cautious of scåmmers who may claim they have found your cat or offer drøne services. It's best not to engage with them.

I’m sorry to hear your cat is missing. I have heard great success stories when owners put out used pet bed and owner’s worn clothing. This helps set up a scent perimeter, helping the cat find the direction of home-even if they’re used to venturing outside (they can detect scent over a mile away). Many don’t come out of hiding until the wee hours of the morn so may be worth setting an alarm and setting up near an open door closest to your scent items. If you’re on an upstairs apartment, petfinders recommend you look on bottom floor nearest your scent items, as kitties don’t have a great concept of levels. They may return but only to the ground level floor. If you’re able hang flyers and check with neighbors and nearby businesses, this could really help. Your baby may have snuck into a shed, garage, or crawl space when the door was open. I had a kitty that did this once. We found her (healthy, but hungry) in a crawlspace a block away. Sending positive energy and hoping your baby makes it home safely and quickly…

Search at night with a flashlight (eyes will glow) up in trees and inside and under things on your property and up to three or four houses away. Cats normally stay pretty close to home. You can put something with the smell of the cat, or the scent of home, out on the porch. Put up missing cat posters, check with your neighbors, post on all local social media groups, and check with animal control every week. Leave your garage door up enough to allow the cat entry. You can also try searching early morning, before dawn, calling his/her name and carrying and open can of tuna or cat food. Hunger sometimes lures them out of hiding. Don't forget to check places like crawl spaces, garages, and sheds.
