Title: Real Straight Talk and Not Hyperbole and Politically Motivated Grandstanding To the Editor: Approximately 30 days after three Guadalupe County Adult Detention Center officers were charged with the horrific crime of sexual assault, Sheriff Joshua Ray was publicly crying about how short-staffed he was in the jail. Am I the only person alive who finds this extremely offensive and believes this to evince a severe lack of self-awareness by Sheriff Ray? Publicly, the message is “zero tolerance, no cover.” Factually, it looks like “extreme tolerance, extreme cover.” Here’s a profound idea: you would have officers, Sheriff Ray, if officers were not charged with sexual assault. Barely a month after such an unfathomable and horrific incident, your Sheriff is publicly crying over not having enough staff. Ray appears more concerned about being seen than he is concerned about being effective. That’s my real straight talk opinion.
