Message from Owner

Somebody must know something or can find out more. Leon County Humane Society offered to take my beautiful grey tabby of 5 years until I got settled into a new place. Kept in touch with copious emails. Went to get him last week and he was gone. Adopted! They claim I hadn't been in touch for weeks but I have the email read receipts. I am elderly and he was all I had. I would never had brought him there but I thought he would be safe and returned to me. They said an elderly couple had been visiting him for weeks and decided on him. Would like to make contact with the adopters either by text, phone or in person, and ask them to return him as they haven't had him very long and don't have a 5 year bond (got him as a kitty) with him like I do. I don't think anyone with a clear conscience would feel super about adopting under these circumstances. I will double their adoption fee and compensate them for any other expenses. Some please help. Please keep asking around. Human Society really messed up. I think they made a mistake and wanted to blame me... Did they need the $80 that badly? Heartsick.

The LCHS doesn't board animals. If they did so for one individual, it'd set an untenable precedent. I'm sorry Cody's human had to surrender him, but grateful the LCHS had room in their foster program to keep him safe, and ultimately find him a home.

LCHS went out of the way to help this woman in a difficult situation. LCHS does not 'hold' animals for people. When you 'owner surrender' an animal, you give up all rights. This lady should be thankful her cat was left in good hands, fully vetted, and adopted by wonderful people. I hope her situation has improved and she is able to replace her cat soon. Remember, kindness goes a long way.

This post is not an honest depiction. I am the person who helped with the legal SURRENDER of Cody when the owner reached out for help due to loss of housing and an uncertain living situation moving forward. Aware of the situation, I recommended she seek help through her doctor and obtain an ESA letter. I heard nothing for a month. Cody was fully vetted by LCHS, acclimated wonderfully thanks to the staff and volunteers, and he was adopted to a nice couple who visited him several times. I heard from the former owner last week and informed her that he'd been adopted. Rescue is incredibly difficult work. Before siding with an individual trying to make a rescue or shelter look bad, please know there's always more to the story.

Please don’t give up on again speaking with the Humane Society. Go up the ladder and try contacting the person that is in charge of the cats and also the Director and advise what proof substantiates what you say. Hope it all works out.

So sorry this happened to you 😭Wow LCHS! We’re in the 21st century and the only mode of communication was an email??! 🤦🏻‍♀️
