Message from Owner

He's a skittish indoor cat. He got spooked by a noisy Halloween decoration. He's very sweet. I'm sure terrified. Please help. Thank you!

Here's some tips that worked for me when I lost a couple of cats in the past. Good luck! I hope you find your kitty! Please place a live trap where your kitty was last seen and put fresh wet catfood on a small paper plate pushed at the very back of the cage so that it will be easier for the spring to engage the trap door when it is stepped on. Fancy Feast wet catfood, especially a fishy smelling type, may help attract your kitty quickly. (A canned paté is easier to place inside a cage, instead of messy gravy-based kind, just fyi.) I used a live trap one time when I lost a cat at the vet clinic where he ran into a big, overgrown park, and I would put Fancy Feast canned catfood on a small paper plate in the back of the live trap. I replaced the food on a new small paper plate every morning. I also used a cat-attracting pheromone spray that I bought at a pet store (a pheromone spray that attracts cats but not wildlife), and I rented a live trap from them, as well. Live traps might be able to be rented from the humane society, but, if not, they are relatively inexpensive at pet stores and can be bought online, too. (If you're worried about using a live trap, I only recently heard there are gravity traps that are not spring-loaded, but I don't know how well they work at capturing a cat.) I draped a dirty bedsheet over the sides of the cage to help camouflage the trap that I used, while leaving the opening and the end of the cage free from cloth so that there would be good air flow circulation. I put his toys around the cage, along with a few strands of my hair, all in hopes that he would pick up my scent and his, as well. Also, please walk that area where your cat was last seen and the area near your home every early morning and at dusk or even late at night, if possible, when all the noise has calmed down. Early morning and at night are times for your cat to hear and see you more easily, and those times are probably when your kitty may be less stressed, when human traffic has dwindled. When calling your cat's name, please use a happy, carefree tone. The sound of your voice when it is not stressed will make your cat feel safe and maybe your cat will come to you. Also, putting up laminated Lost Cat flyers are helpful, and sometimes offering a small reward can help bring lost pets back home. Talking to your neighbors and asking them to check sheds and garages might help keep your cat from being trapped somewhere, in case that is a possibility. After nine days, I found my kitty in the trap. I moved the trap to a second location after getting a tip from someone who saw my flyer and who then saw my cat a few days later. I set the trap in the new location and found him in the trap the very next morning. I brought him all the way inside my house before I opened the live trap door, so that I made sure he was back safe and sound in the residence. I lost another cat years before when he escaped from the house five minutes after he entered it for the first time, and he was missing for 27 days, until I found him in my backyard late at night. I did the same things mentioned above, except for a trap, and I walked and biked the area for a block around the home every day multiple times a day, whenever I could. I didn't search more than a block because he was fixed and wouldn't have traveled far. I always called his name a lot and loudly, especially while in my yard, not worrying what the neighbors thought, so that my voice was loud enough for him to hear. On the 27th night of his disappearance, I heard him meowing outside and found him very thin in my backyard, but other than that, he was fine, and he gained weight quickly and lived to be a very old cat. Don't give up hope. Please look for your kitty as best you can. Good luck. I hope you find your kitty soon!!! I hope the very best for your kitty and for you! May you both be reunited soon!!
