LOST BUDGIE / PARAKEET – "Momo" Last Seen: 41st Ave & 75th Street, Elmhurst (11373) – on Tuesday, Sept 15 around 4:30 PM. Description: English Rainbow Budgie (bright multi-colored feathers). Identifying Mark: Has a noticeable injury on his left leg. Behavior: Very friendly around humans, but easily scared. Picky eater (loves millet and budgie seed mix). Aww. I lost my two parakeets same in Jackson heights I was devastated looking. Luckily a neighbor grabbed them and spread the word around…. By any chance you should ask your neighbors as well just in case they landed infront of your building/ home

Here are some ideas to assist in your search. *Create a post on Pawboost, NextDoor & Ring, if you haven’t already. *During the daytime: use a wireless Bluetooth speaker to broadcast flock calls or your voice, shake treat bags or anything that might attract attention to food, put the cage out where it can be seen. *During the evening when searching is over, design & print off flyers with photo & contact information. These can be encased in a ziplock to keep weatherproof & posted in areas where allowed like parks, poles & any nearby gathering areas. Also drop off some at vet clinics, pet supply stores, anything within a 5 mile radius. Contact local shelters/rescues & even the police dept - they do pick up found/stray pets all the time. Make sure the world knows - neighbors esp ones that have bird feeders/baths/pools. Hand them out while searching the area. Join every local social media group there is. Run an ad in your local newspaper - some run one for free in lost & found (or cheap). Also check with local bird watcher groups - they’re always out & about. Flyers cannot be placed in mailboxes. *PLEASE CHECK WITH LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTERS & FILE A MISSING PET REPORT*

THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU HAVE A LOST BIRD If you only have 1 bird, put its cage in an open window with the door open facing outside. If you have a yard, bring the cage outside without any other birds (too much chance of your other bird escaping) with food and water and play the sounds associated with the species that is lost. Canvass the surrounding blocks right away (Most small bird species stay within a 6-8 block radius from where they are lost in all directions. Larger species can and will fly longer distances). Speak to neighbors, delivery drivers, and anyone similar who is on the roads regularly. Contact local vet hospitals, especially vets who specialize in exotics. Places to post: Facebook (bird rescue pages and pages specific to birds (examples: 911 parrot alert, lost and found birds US), lost & found pages, specifically town pages where your bird was lost), Instagram and other social media platforms. Important: Please print fliers and hang them around your area, especially in very public places like food stores, libraries, etc. Good luck!
